  1. 'Champions? Take your pick from six'published at 12:27 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Chris Waddle
Ex-Spurs and England winger on 5 live Sport

This season will be a massive dogfight right at the bottom - there are eight or nine teams who could be drawn into the drop zone.

As for who could win the league? Take your pick from six.

Dan: 1.Man City (improved defensively and they are brilliant going forward), 2. Man Utd (strengthened all areas), 3.Chelsea, (still have a good team), 4.Liverpool (Coutinho)

Joe Bridle: 1. Man Utd, 2. Liverpool, 3. Man City, 4. Chelsea. Klopp will get Liverpool very close, but Utd will just edge it.

Alex Maynard: 1. Arsenal, (once Koscielny is back), 2. Man Utd (strength all over the pitch), 3. Man City (team won't quite have gelled), 4. Everton. (Koeman always exceeds expectations)

  4. 'I don't blame Coutinho in the slightest'published at 12:22 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

    Philippe CoutinhoImage source, PA

I don't think Philippe Coutinho will stay at Anfield. He started with a statement calling for an amicable move, but four days later he submitted a transfer request. It's his dream move and I don't blame him in the slightest.

Liverpool have no right to make a fuss, especially with their pre-season behaviour involving Southampton.

Ultimately, Coutinho will simply remain unhappy and Liverpool simply need to bite the bullet. The club has a £100m asset there, a player who may want to force a move.

Ed Hunter: As things stand: 1. Man Utd, 2. Man City, 3. Chelsea. 4. Spurs, Liverpool, Arsenal, Everton are all possibles. Waiting for the window to close, though.

DarceysDad: 1. Man Utd, 2. Man City, 3. Chelsea, 4. Arsenal. It pains me to say it about the Mancs, but it's Jose's famed second season and they've made the key few signings. Wembley will kill Spurs' chances, and sadly (as a Kopite), I even fear Everton will finish higher than a Coutinho-less Liverpool.

M.Fanuel: 1. Arsenal, 2. Man City, 3. Spurs, 4. Chelsea. Write off Arsenal at your peril. Wenger vindicated.

  6. Hornets buzzingpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

If there are problems are Liverpool, then it is quite the opposite at Watford.

Under new boss Marco Silva, the Hornets have splashed out on bringing in former-Reds target Will Hughes (£8m), Brazilian Richarlison (£11m) and Andre Gray for a club-record £18.5m.

And they have also completed the deal for former England Under-21 international Nathaniel Chalobah for a mere £5m. A snip in today's market and the bargain of the summer so far.

"I wanted to come out and play," Chalobah said on leaving Chelsea. "Watford was my first loan and things went well. I was looking forward to coming back."

  7. 'Van Dijk will go'published at 12:15 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

    John Motson
    Match of the Day commentator

It is not good for anyone when there is a stand-off between a player and his club. We have had it in several cases this summer. Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk has dug his heels in and wants a move to Liverpool.

That was temporarily knocked on the head when the Saints accused Liverpool of an illegal approach. The Dutchman is a fine central defender.

Southampton are put in a position every summer where a player decides he wants to go somewhere else, they never seem to suffer though. With the flow of young players coming through, they will compensate if he does not stay.

The new manager Mauricio Pellegrino is holding firm, but I think he will go.

  8. 'Hopes and dreams'published at 12:13 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Danny Mills
Ex-Man City and England defender on 5 live Sport

Everybody has hopes and dreams at the very start of the season. People will be wondering whether this season their club will do a Leicester... then later on today they'll mostly be reminded that they won't!

I'm very excited about one particular summer signing. The player who was one of the most exciting last season in Europe was Benjamin Mendy. He has pace and power and will be a great addition to the Premier League and Manchester City.

Mango Man: 1. Man Utd, 2. Liverpool, 3. Everton, 4. Man City. Liverpool top if they get Virgil Van Dijk. Fingers crossed for West Ham top 10.

Jibin Mathew George: 1. Man City, 2. Arsenal, 3. Man Utd, 4. Liverpool. No 20-odd goals for Lukaku this season. Plenty for Pogba.

Dean Laccohee: 1. Man Utd, 2. Man City, 3. Chelsea, 4. Arsenal. Liverpool will be lucky to get top 6 without Coutinho. Spurs to have a shocker!

  12. Philippe Coutin-go?published at 12:03 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

    Cheers Neil, top stuff.

I sense there has been more excitement at a wake than at Anfield this season.

Only one major signing, having to apologise for the pursuit of a player and now the club's best player wants to leave.

But the only way to a fan's heart is my collecting three points at a weekend.

Achieve that against Watford today - with a Mohamed Salah goal - and all will be forgotten, won't it?

  13. Half an hour to kick-offpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Watford v Liverpool (12:30 BST)

Right, it's time for me to hand over to my colleague Shamoon Hafez who will guide you through the whole of Liverpool's opening game at Watford.

Will the Reds cruise to victory without Philippe Coutinho or will Marco Silva mastermind a win in his first league game in charge of the Hornets?

    Take it away, Shamoon.

Owais Iqbal: 1. Man City (if Kompany is injury-free), 2. Man Utd (Ibrahimovic to lead late surge?). 3. Liverpool (no squad depth to last season), 4. Arsenal (as well as FA Cup).

Tom Fisk: 1. Man City, 2. Man Utd, 3. Arsenal, 4. Chelsea. Just can't see past City, quality all over the pitch.

Thomas Hollern: 1. Burnley, 2. Everton, 3. Leicester, 4. Stoke. Highly unlikely but would be more exciting than the usual pick 4 from 6 every season.

    Interesting prediction, Thomas!
