  2. 'Reds should let Coutinho go'published at 10:26 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    BBC Radio 5 live

I'm not sure this is going to go down well with Liverpool fans but the Reds should let Philippe Coutinho move to Barcelona, says ex-Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas.

The midfielder submitted a transfer request after Liverpool said he was not for sale and rejected a 100 million euros (£90m) bid from Barcelona.

Jenas believes Coutinho, 25, sees it as his only chance to play for Barcelona.

"In my opinion, Liverpool should say 'thank you very much for your service, we'll keep this professional, on you go'," Jenas told BBC Radio 5 live.

  5. Who will finish where?published at 10:16 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

    Premier League predictions

It is that time of the year again and the most contentious pre-season task of all - picking who will finish where in the Premier League in the 2017-18 campaign.

The big money is spent and will continue to be spent even after the season gets under way this weekend.

So here goes with the crystal ball - and with the usual safety net excuse that these placings could yet be moved around by some more heavy lifting in the transfer markets before the end of August.

  8. Spurs eyeing Sanchezpublished at 10:05 British Summer Time 12 August 2017

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to sign Ajax central defender Davinson Sanchez.

Spurs are yet to buy anyone so far this summer, a situation causing concern for fans and players, judging by the comments of defender Danny Rose.

Pochettino has continued to insist Tottenham would be active before the 31 August transfer deadline.

Sanchez, 21, is a Colombian international who joined Ajax in 2016 for £3.8m.

No announcement is thought to be imminent but Spurs are hopeful of concluding a deal for a fee that could exceed the club record £30m they paid Newcastle for Moussa Sissoko 12 months ago.

    Arsenal 4-3 Leicester

Many thought Olivier Giroud's days were numbered at Arsenal after the arrival of fellow Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette over the summer.

Boss Arsene Wenger has revealed he offered Giroud the chance to leave and he turned it down.

"I love the man and the player. He loves the club," said Wenger.

"He doesn't want to leave and I'm happy that he wants to stay, but at some stage I opened the door for him because I knew I had many strikers.

"But he's really loved here, we love him, and in the end he's decided to stay."

    Arsenal 4-3 Leicester

The first ever Premier League opener on a Friday night was everything we hoped for.

Arsenal beat Leicester in a seven-goal thriller at the Emirates, with substitute Olivier Giroud netting the late winner for the Gunners.

Alexandre Lacazette headed the hosts ahead 94 seconds into his top-flight debut, only for Shinji Okazaki to nod in an equaliser just two minutes later.

Jamie Vardy then slid the Foxes ahead, before Danny Welbeck made it 2-2 at the break.

Vardy headed in Riyad Mahrez's corner to edge Leicester in front again, but then came the Arsenal onslaught.

Substitute Aaron Ramsey smashed in an angled drive before Giroud met Granit Xhaka's corner.

Manager Arsene Wenger had some very interesting things to say about Giroud at the final whistle...
