Both sides are in Champions League action on Wednesday, which may explain the substitution of Mohamed Salah. He and Sadio Mane will both be fresh to face Sevilla.

There is still half an hour left in this match but the game is long gone. City just popping the ball about, Liverpool just waiting for the final whistle.

There was plenty of talk about Chris Waddle's new arm-less glasses on Radio 5 live during the first half at Manchester City.

    Here they are...

We have had some more news from Manchester City about Ederson. The club doctors are checking to see if there are fractures on the cheek and jaw. He is still in the medical centre at the Etihad campus.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 59 mins

    Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool

What's James Milner done to upset fans of his former employers? He gets a fair bit of stick as he comes on to replace Gini Wijnaldum. A thankless task now.

  6. Man City running rampantpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 9 September 2017

    Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

This has the potential to get messy for Liverpool - a man down, Manchester City three up and with a goal-hungry forward line.

Sergio Aguero showed great unselfishness there to set up Gabriel Jesus. What a player he is.

Not that this makes Pep Guardiola looks any more relaxed. Still jumping about like he is trying to avoid a swarm of wasps.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 57 mins

    Manchester City 3-0 Liverpool

No hat-trick for Gabriel Jesus today, he comes off and Leroy Sane is on. More pace! Just what Emre Can, playing at the back since half-time, needed to see.

Ahnaf Tahmed Faiz: Scenes if Liverpool end up losing 4-0. Would be a double for AOC for two different clubs in two weeks.

    Man City 3-0 Liverpool

    Simon Stone
BBC Sport at the Etihad Stadium

Sergio Aguero is nudging ever closer to a significant piece of Manchester City history.

Today's goal was his 171st for City, meaning he requires just six to equal Eric Brook as the club's greatest ever scorer.

    The statistics are startling.

Brook took 453 appearances to reach his 177 between 1928 and 1940.

    This is Aguero's 257th

If those two play a lot together, they will score a lot more this season. They make it look very easy. Liverpool look sloppy there - their center-halves were just ball watching.

GOAL - Manchester City 3-0 Liverpoolpublished at 53 mins

    Gabriel Jesus

A very similar story to the first goal. Jordan Henderson's pass forwards is cut out by John Stones, Fernandinho slides a pass through to free Sergio Aguero who is one-on-one. It looks like the third goal, and it is, but not as you expect as Aguero squares it for strike partner Gabriel Jesus to convert. Unselfish.

  12. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 53 mins

    Manchester City 2-0 Liverpool

Sergio Aguero slots in a cross from the left but the flag is raised. He doesn't like it. But it doesn't matter...

  13. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Manchester City 2-0 Liverpool

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's first real taste of the action is a great ball over the top for Roberto Firmino to latch on to and win a corner off Benjamin Mendy. Who must be the broadest full-back in world football.

Otamendi will be pleased Salah has gone off because he couldn't get near him.

But if City get a third goal, the game will be done. If they get sloppy, Liverpool will take the chance.

Charleschip: It appears that we also sold our big game form to LFC with Oxlade-Chamberlain!

Daniel: Has Klopp actually improved Liverpool's defending since he arrived? I think they're worse. He's got to go, not good enough.

Crakkers: LFC paying the price for Klopp refusing to address our defensive frailties in transfer window. When will he learn?
