David Goodman: Ridiculous red card there.

James Hammond: Eyes. On. The. Ball. All. The. Time.

Gregory's Goals: Definitely a red card. It was thuggish and unnecessary. Liverpool always bottle it in big matches these days.

Charlie Smith: If you think that's a red card. You are what's wrong with the sport. End of.

  3. SUBSTITUTION - Bravo onpublished at 43 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool

Ederson is still down and clearly hurt. That is not in question.

Jurgen Klopp and his coaching staff were incensed by the decision to send Sadio Mane off, with ref Jon Moss going over to speak to Klopp during this lengthy delay.

Claudio Bravo is going to be coming on for the stricken Ederson.

Sadio Mane has to be able to challenge for that ball you would think, Ederson is well out of his area, but his foot was very high.

Was it reckless? Dangerous? Mane seemed to be looking at the ball.

Whatever, Ederson was clattered and he's still being treated.

  11. RED CARD - Sadio Manepublished at 37 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool

    A big moment!

First of all it's a great ball over the top to free Sadio Mane, who is on goal. City keeper Ederson races off his line, the two converge as the ball bounces high and Ederson heads the ball clear.

Mane clatters him with a high boot, it's face height. Whatever his intentions, it's a nasty collision and he's shown a straight red.

Doug McMahon: Schoolboy defending at the back by Liverpool. Where's VVD when you need him?

James Hulme: This game is incredible. How can both teams be so good at attacking and yet useless at the back?

lfcway: Liverpool were comfortable, then one through ball out of nowhere! Typical LFC at the back.

This is exciting to watch but it's not the best standard. The teams trade possession about four times in a row. Hoof!

Liverpool's young defender Trent Alexander-Arnold may have impressed during his short Reds career so far but more is being demanded of him today.

After playing a pass down the flank to Mohamed Salah, Alexander-Arnold held his positiion near the halfway line.

Manager Jurgen Klopp was out in a flash to tell the youngster to get upfield to help the attack.

No time to rest these days.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 34 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool

How is this only 1-0? City the latest to go close as Gabriel Jesus picks the pocket of Ragnar Klavan out on the left, Jesus drives inside, has Sergio Aguero in the middle but goes for goal and Simon Mignolet makes a decent save.

Mignolet then does well to save from John Stones from the following corner.

It was a good save but Salah made it easy for him. Opened his body up, gave him the eyes of where he was going and it had no power.

That's what I am saying about Salah - no end product.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 32 mins

    Manchester City 1-0 Liverpool

Liverpool should be level! They pick City apart with some lovely one-touch passing, Mo Salah is in on goal and cuts in on to his left foot. He goes to bend it in the corner but it's too close to Ederson and he keeps it out.

Great chance. Should score. Would be a goal if City had Claudio Bravo in nets...

  19. Can Man City really do without Aguero?published at 13:01 British Summer Time 9 September 2017

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Lots of talk this season about how Sergio Aguero may find himself marginalised in Pep Guardiola's long term plan for Manchester City.

It would be some call from Guardiola because the Argentine is quite simply a goalscorer supreme and a player who can make the difference.

Aguero, who started on the bench for the recent win at Bournemouth, will answer with goals...lots of them, just as he did with such expertise there.

Simple but brilliant from Manchester City.

A defence splitting pass from De Bruyne before Aguero rounded Mignolet and coolly finished.
