    Man City 2-0 Napoli

    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

"Raheem Sterling, he’s top of the league” is the current chant echoing around the Etihad Stadium, and the England winger’s strike - and Jesus's second - mean Manchester City are further clear at the top of Group F as things stand.

The lyrics to that song are not quite so catchy, though.

    Gabriel Jesus

    Goals galoreee!

That man Kevin de Bruyne the architect again. The Belgian collects a poor Napoli defensive clearance and threads a ball into the six yard box in between goalkeeper and backline.

It is so precise and Gabriel Jesus just has the easy task of putting the ball into the net from a couple of yards out.

City and Liverpool both two up.

  3. Sterling's on firepublished at 19:59 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Man City 1-0 Napoli

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

That is eight goals this season for Raheem Sterling now and five in his last five games.

His record over an entire campaign is 11. I fancy him to break that record.

  4. goal

GOAL - Maribor 0-2 Liverpoolpublished at 12 mins

    Philippe Coutinho

    Game over?

Liverpool are carving open Maribor at will and double their advantage.

James Milner's run into the box is not tracked and he pulls the ball back to Philippe Coutinho on the edge of the box.

The Brazilian takes it on the bounce, clipping a finish into the corner of the net.

That will add a few million to his value.

  5. goal

GOAL - Man City 1-0 Napolipublished at 8 mins

    Raheem Sterling

Well-worked goal, as you would expect.

Leroy Sane, wide on the left, picks out David Silva in the area.

For some reason, Kyle Walker is the furthest man forward and his shot from close range is blocked.

But Raheem Sterling is on hand to tuck in the rebound past Pepe Reina.

That is the England international's eighth goal of the season and it is just the start City would have wanted.

Jan Vertonghen got caught in no man's land from Marcelo's cross. It is difficult when you have been playing centre-back to go to full-back. He was caught in between positions.

How Karim Benzema missed the target I'm not sure. Massive let off for Tottenham

  7. Postpublished at 19:54 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Man City 0-0 Napoli

This is the game where we are expecting the goals to come, but little action in the first few minutes.

The two sides just skipping around the ring, slowly jabbing, sizing each other up.

No heavy blows landed just yet.

  8. CLOSE!published at 19:53 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Maribor 0-1 Liverpool

A rapid start from Liverpool and they almost double their lead after six minutes but James Milner curls his effort straight at the Maribor goalkeeper from the edge of the box.

  9. 'Spurs here to defend'published at 19:52 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Real Madrid 0-0 Tottenham

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender at the Bernabeu for 5 live

Mauricio Pochettino has surprised everyone with three centre-backs. It is very defensive with Jan Vertonghen playing left wing-back. Pochettino is obviously worried about the threat of Ronaldo, Benzema, Isco... He is coming here and thinking 'let's defend'.

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

    Real Madrid 0-0 Tottenham

    A real let-off for Spurs

Marcelo picks out young full-back Achraf Hakimi at the back post - Jan Vertonghen getting caught out.

The ball is pulled back to Cristiano Ronaldo and he heads against the post from eight yards out.

From the follow-up, Karim Benzema screws his shot wide.

  11. goal

GOAL - Maribor 0-1 Liverpoolpublished at 3 mins

    Roberto Firmino

    That was quick.

    Ohh so easy for Liverpool.

Mohamed Salah in acres of field down the right, makes his way into the box and picks out Roberto Firmino to finish from six yards out.

    Simples.

    Real Madrid 0-0 Tottenham

An early warning sign for Spurs.

The ball was given away in the middle of the park and Isco tried to set Cristiano Ronaldo away, but in came holding midfielder Eric Dier with a neat interception.

    John Southall
BBC Radio 5 live football reporter in Maribor

Here's my view for the night at the People's Garden. It's a modest stadium but a raucous one and the 842 Liverpool fans are squeezed in behind the goal.

They know only a win will do tonight. Maribor have never won at home in the group phase and the last time they were victorious at this stage was back in 1999. It will be a major surprise if Liverpool don't register their first win in Group E tonight.

  17. 'We are so excited'published at 19:38 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

Real Madrid v Tottenham (19:45 BST)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BT Sport, about starting Fernando Llorente up front alongside Harry Kane: "It is important for us to be brave. We know very well that Real Madrid are a good team, but it is not all about defending. We have to be brave and go forward when we have the ball."

On the midfield battle: "It is true we struggle a little bit in that position but we have players we know can do a good job. It is a key area for us and a key area for Real Madrid. But we are so excited and so motivated to play here."

What can we expect from Napoli tonight? Something pretty similar to City as it happens…

In terms of their football education, 58-year-old Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri could not be more different from his opposite number – when Pep Guardiola was winning the European Cup under Johan Cruyff at Barcelona, Sarri was getting his international experience as a banker in London, Germany, Switzerland and Luxembourg, and had only coached amateur teams in Italy when he took over at Italian sixth-tier side AC Sansovino in 2000.

He quickly made his name as a workaholic, earning the nickname ‘Mr 33’ because he apparently thought up that many different plans for set-pieces, but did not make it into Serie A until he won promotion with Empoli in 2014.

Sarri took charge of Napoli a year later and has done so well he now has a style of football named after his tactics, which are known in his homeland as ‘Sarri-ball’. His teams play short, fast passes and look to move up the pitch quickly, then press high when they lose the ball.

Sounds familiar... and I think Pep would approve.

  19. 'We like to play football'published at 19:34 British Summer Time 17 October 2017

Man City v Napoli (19:45 BST)

    Manchester City

Man City boss Pep Guardiola, talking on BT Sport: "We like to play football, like amateur Sunday League players who love to play. But you have to take it seriously and win games. Like every team in the world we want to do it our way."

  20. ouch!

Things got a little #awks in Jurgen Klopp's pre-match news conference.

A journalist described him as a coach "who fans love" but "fails to win trophies".
