Al, Manchester: Don't get too excited Brian. No De Bruyne, no Silva, no Walker, no Aguero, shall I go on?

Jon, Stockport: I’ve invented a new drinking game. Take a shot every time Danilo is caught out of position.

Thomas, Cheshire: Re: Brian 20:42 - Are you deluded? Averaging 70% possession in the past 3 league games and 13 straight league wins. That's luck?

  4. Postpublished at 21:00 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Liverpool 5-0 Spartak Moscow

Spartak have almost been as bad as Liverpool have been excellent. A defensive nightmare.

  5. Get us six?published at 20:59 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Liverpool 5-0 Spartak Moscow

    Patrick Jennings
    BBC Sport at Anfield

As soon as Liverpool's fourth goal went in Spartak boss Massimo Carrera legged it down the touchline to summon one of the subs from his warm-up down by the corner.

Lorenzo Melgarejo will have had a brilliant view of Sadio Mane's acrobatic strike.

There was then a rather awkward moment as, waiting to come on next to his manager, the home side added an easy fifth. What can Carrera have said to him? Go on and get us six?

  6. Dortmund fight backpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

Borussia Dortmund must really want to be in the Europa League. They've regained third spot as it stands and they've done it the hard way by coming back from 2-0 down at Real Madrid to 2-2. A Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang double doing the business.

LFCWay: Mane!! What a goal. Now Salah scoring will be icing on the big fat champions league knockout stage cake!

Warren Wine: Salah again and again, perfect 5 star show tonight, YES

Steven Shaw: Liverpool's record CL win is 8-0 against Besiktas. At this rate, they'll beat it. At least this isn't going to be Sevilla II.

  8. Postpublished at 20:57 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Shakhtar 2-0 Manchester City

Chance! Manchester City have been a threat since the break and captain Fernandinho should do better than head a free header well wide. Danilo then slides a low cross into the middle but it's not turned home.

  9. City favourites to win Champions Leaguepublished at 20:54 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Shakhtar 2-0 Manchester City

    Joleon Lescott
Former England defender on BBC 5 live

    Despite their performance tonight...

PSG and Manchester City are favourites for the Champions League.

After you've played a certain way for Pep, it's going to be hard to replace that.

  10. Great techniquepublished at 20:54 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Liverpool 5-0 Spartak Moscow

    Conor McNamara
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

On Mane's goal - That was great technique from Mane. Liverpool can get as many as they like here.

Moscow are a very poor side.

On Coutinho's hat-trick goal - Brilliant. This is embarrassing for Moscow.

  11. CLOSE!published at 20:54 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Tottenham 2-0 Apoel

Apoel offered almost nothing in the first half. Scrap that, they did offer nothing with no shots on target but there appears to be a bit more urgency about them this half as a deflected Praxitelis Vouros shot flies just wide of the far post.

  12. goal

GOAL - Liverpool 5-0 Spartak Moscowpublished at 20:52 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Philippe Coutinho HAT-TRICK (50 mins)

Rampant. That's 10 goals in a few days now for Liverpool.

James Milner does the damage again on the left, teeing up Philippe Coutinho just inside the area. His shot takes a huge deflection off of Salvatore Bocchetti and sneaks in at the near post.

Liverpool are now the highest-scoring English side in a group stage (21).

  13. Tottenham's fringe playerspublished at 20:51 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Tottenham 2-0 Apoel Nicosia

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Wembley

There are a few players in the Tottenham side who are keen to make an impression here.

Fernando Llorente has finally got a goal, which will be a huge relief after such a long wait.

Not too much is being asked of full-backs Serge Aurier and Danny Rose in a defensive sense but Aurier in particular has looked good going forward and 19-year-old Argentine Juan Foyth has had a comfortable European debut.

Maurico Pochettino will be taking it all in.

He really needs to get Tottenham's domestic campaign back on track because, as it presently stands, they won't be in the Champions League next season.

Unless they win it of course.

  14. goal

GOAL - Liverpool 4-0 Spartak Moscowpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Sadio Mane (47 mins)

    What a goal that is!

James Milner has the freedom of Liverpool on the left wing and floats in a deep cross, nobody is marking Sadio Mane, but the ball is still at an awkward height. Maybe waist height?

He watches it all the way and then pummels a volley into the roof of the net. What a hit!

  15. Postpublished at 20:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Liverpool 3-0 Spartak Moscow

Liverpool play Everton on Sunday so I'm sure Jurgen Klopp will be keen to rest a couple of his big four if he can. Although maybe he'll wait for a fourth goal.

    Oh...

  16. Postpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

    Shakhtar 2-0 Manchester City

Straight from kick-off Leroy Sane has City's first shot on target, a volley from 12 yards which is well held by Andriy Pyatov.

  17. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:47 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2017

David: A lot of people are saying Chelsea are going to find it hard to go past the round of 16 but the other English teams can also get a tricky draw with the like of Bayern, Real and Juve

Kyle: Even as a Newcastle fan I prefer and get more enjoyment watching Liverpool play than watching my own club. They have so much pace, skill and movement and there linkup play is sensational. Great to watch.

Brian: Maybe Man City aren’t as good as they think they are.

Lucky to win their last 3 league games and now losing to Shaktar who are also playing “away”.If United can put one over on them on Sunday then they might need to spend another 100 million plus in the January transfer window to secure the title.

As it stands then, and in fact unless Liverpool ship four goals in the second half, we are getting five Premier League sides into the last 16 of the Champions League.

Amrul Choudhury: The year Arsenal attempt to win the Europa League.... Enter Napoli, Dortmund and Atletico Madrid

Patrick Smith: St Nicholas Day today, 6 December and he is the patron saint of Liverpool. Lets hope he continues to smile on us in the second half.

Gazerelda: What a massive shame for the #UCL, external that a glorious attacking side such as Napoli will be going out. I can’t help wonder if it suits #MCFC, external to have them knocked out
