Huge penalty shout! Jesse Lingard goes down under the attention of at least two Everton players. He still managed to get a shot away, but that looked like a decent shout to me.

That's a positive change once again from Koeman. Attacking players are on the park for Everton. He feels like his side can get something and on the balance of the second half they probably deserve something.

Change for both sides. Idrissa Gueye off, Dominic Calvert-Lewin on for Everton. Juan Mata makes way for Ander Herrera for the hosts, all watched by a busy man in a black suit. It's as if an accountant somehow made his way on to the touchline.

Over the bar! Jesse Lingard finds space on the left, cuts inside and shoots. It takes a deflection (off Cuco Martina, I think) and loops over the top, with Jordan Pickford probably beaten. Lingard has been lively since coming on.

For all the flak Everton took in the first half, they have been the better side in the second period. More comfortable on the ball, creating more chances. Jesse Lingard goes down under a challenge from Cuco Martina. I say challenge. He just kicked him in the knee.

It is now over five-and-a-half hours since Everton last scored a goal.

The situation has to change if Ronald Koeman's men are to get anything out of this game - and potentially drop into the bottom three if they concede again.

The last time Everton went four consecutive games without a goal was April 2006.

This game is in danger of petering out into something barely worth remembering. The first 10 minutes or so were electric and the first half pretty watchable, but it's been low-grade stuff in the second half. Wayne Rooney is arguing with the referee about something, right before Jesse Lingard skies over from about eight yards out.

Why do we still call it woodwork even though the posts are now made of metal? Either way, Tom Davies off, Sandro Ramirez on.

  9. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 65 mins

...off the post! Juan Mata, left foot, around the wall but off the outside of the woodwork. Pickford might have had it covered - he hit the post with his right hand as the ball made a satisfying thwack on the upright.

To be fair, Jagielka's passed it back to Pickford and he's not confident at all on his right foot and it's come to Mata.

Pickford just needed to smash it out of play with his right foot.

Jordan Pickford, you lucky boy. Errant clearance, straight at Juan Mata, who could have done better had he not dithered. Ashley Williams takes a booking for giving away a free-kick on the edge of the box...

Another save from David de Gea, who is quickly becoming the busiest of the keepers. Confusion in the United defence, Gylfi Sigurdsson nips in to poke at it from six yards, but De Gea is off his line. The Spaniard is making a quiet bid for MOM.

You can see what Ronald Koeman is trying to do. If they just invested in a quality centre-forward this summer they would have had a really good season.

Who should they have bought? It's a good question for 606.

Outstanding from the linesman as Ashley Young and Cuco Martina tango in the corner. "Steady, steady." It's like he was reversing a lorry into a tight space. Jesse Lingard getting ready to come on.

Romelu Lukaku has changed his boots. He has a good look at the new ones, as if he is trying to find the on switch.

Sir Bobby Charlton is in the house, next to who I am told is Mrs Charlton. How many matches has Sir Bobby seen? How many matches has Mrs Charlton seen? Everton sweep forward, but are met with a wall of red. Wayne Rooney is at the heart of most of it, but United are soon on the break and winning free-kick in the Everton half.

United have a foot on the ball and are keeping Everton at a safe distance. First on the left, then right, then left again. Cross comes in, but an unmarked Romelu Lukaku can't get the ball under control. Phil Jagielka is in there to toe the ball away.

Jose Mourinho is sporting a long, black coat and wears the stern look of a mobster that has just put a hit on someone. More work from Wayne Rooney, making a nuisance of himself. Everton have started well in this second half.

What a chance! Rooney made it himself.

The ball was just slightly under his feet and he just couldn't open his body up enough.

I think he probably should have scored that one.
