I don't think I'm with you there, Chris. I think it's been pretty decent. You're right about Everton needing a striker, though. Their summer recruitment was quite lopsided.

Jose Mourinho has returned to his seat and has his head resting on his arms, like a man considering taking a nap. The sun has returned for these last few minutes of the first half. Cuco Martina gets Everton into trouble, but Ashley Williams heads clear.

Brilliant defending. Romelu Lukaku tries to get on the end of Marcus Rashford's through ball, but Phil Jagielka busts a lung to slide in and just do enough to see the ball out. From the resulting corner, Eric Bailly is in there, but his header is snuffed out.

Under Louis van Gaal and in Jose Mourinho's first season in charge you sensed some fans preferred to read the programme or check out social media on their phones rather than watch the football. Now it feels like all eyes are focused on the pitch.

Fair to say the general reaction amongst the Everton fans at that Romelu Lukaku miss was one of hilarity.

Most of them are stood up anyway and they reacted by waving - and making a few other gestures - towards their former star forward.

Noise inside OT, echoing around the vast arena. Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini jump for the ball, with the Belgian coming down rubbing the back of his head. More ground covered by Cuco Martina, but the cross doesn't beat the first man. Jose Mourinho is up off his seat. Everton have improved enough for the United boss to have his say.

Good save from David de Gea, stopping a low header from Tom Davies with his legs. The flag goes up afterwards, but De Gea wasn't to know that. Everton are getting some joy down their right through Cuco Martina.
