A phrase that maybe sums up this game - that was almost excellent from Arsenal! Aaron Ramsey rolls his man and plays a lovely pass through - but it's slightly overcooked and Danny Welbeck can't get there.

At the other end Alvaro Morata goes down, no foul given. He was pulling the shirt of Shkodran Mustafi.

The chant goes up around Stamford Bridge for Eden Hazard as Chelsea's Belgian forward starts to warm up. May need a touch of magic to settle this very even contest.

Jon Charles: This is getting so complicated but I think that one isn't even a yellow. No excess force. No studs. Limited danger.

David Corbett: Surely same as last week. Luiz didn't do that intentionally but surely endangered the safety of the opponent?

David Luiz had his eye on the ball but his foot was up. He caught Koscielny with some force. This is what's so confusing. Mane was sent off for something like that last weekend, and Luiz gets a yellow.

Laurent Koscielny is fine to continue. It was a very brave clearing header. Commanding. Tiemoue Bakayoko, who I thought was outstanding in midweek, then goes on a box-to-box run through the middle which ends with a blocked Marcos Alonso shot.

Everton have a terrible record at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

And after their poor second period against Spurs and abysmal first against Atalanta, you feel they need more than just one half today...

Chelsea free-kick, David Luiz goes for the overhead kick - and kicks Laurent Koscielny in the face/head/arms.

Luiz is booked. He has a right to go for that surely? Don't ask Sadio Mane.

Chelsea have won the six previous Premier League games under Antonio Conte when they have gone in goalless at half-time. They'll need to raise it a bit if that record is to continue.

Chelsea have also sent on Tiemoue Bakayoko at half-time in place of Pedro, who took a whack in the first half. Willian has a low shot saved.

Paul French: I thought Arsenal would get battered. This is why I hate the premier league; always making you look stupid.

Agubata Odinaka: Chelsea will have to up their game now if they are going to win the game. Gunners have grown in belief and look dangerous.

David PH Thomas: The best half versus Chelsea I've seen in a Long time. Arsenal finally have a plan.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho on Wayne Rooney's return to Old Trafford: "I think he will get a welcome he deserves.

"Sometimes in England the word legend comes too easy. Not in this case. Trophies, goals, one of the most important players at Man United.

"The stadium will show him the respect he deserves."

When Ronaldo came back to Old Trafford the fans almost killed him with kindness.

But there's always this ongoing debate about the value Wayne Rooney has with United fans. He doesn't get the love the deserves.

I just don't know what the reaction will be.

So no goals, but an entertaining first 45 minutes of Premier Legaue football.

While the players catch their breath and David Luiz gets some treatment on his arm after that clash into the advertising boards, let's look ahead to the day's other top-flight game.

You would not know it from his agitated body language but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger will be the happier manager after that first half.

Chelsea made a very promising start but Arsenal grew in stature and confidence as the game progressed. It's a lively one at Stamford Bridge.

There were question marks over Arsenal's character, mentality and belief, but I think they've edged it on chances. They've grown into the half. After the Welbeck miss, the Lacazette miss, Arsenal should be up.

Antonio Conte won't be too happy with that first 45 - Arsenal were much improved.

David Luiz ends the half colliding with a photographer and an advertising board. That looked clumsy and he's in discomfort. Get John Terry down from the stands - he'll have his kit no doubt.
