Rob Elliot stuck out a foot and it was a great save on the line. In fact it was just a little in front of it, that shows how quickly Elliot reacted.

Millimeters away from 2-0! It is a quite brilliant save from Rob Elliot as Bruno's cross swings across the face of goal and is steered towards the net by the sliding Solly March. It is going in until Elliot sticks out a boot to clear on the line.

    Top stuff all round.

Aidan: People banging on about it being a championship game, I've seen games just as bad from the likes of spurs and Liverpool.

Hemed is the main man for Brighton at the moment. That is two in two for him on this ground. He has netted in consecutive league games at the Amex for the first time since February (in the Championship).

Now what have Newcastle got to try and prevent this being a home win?

  5. 'Great goal'published at 17:09 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton 1-0 Newcastle

    Mark Schwarzer
Ex-Fulham & Boro keeper on BBC Radio 5 live at the Amex

A really well-worked goal. It was a very good finish under a lot of pressure from the Newcastle defence. Great goal.

GOAL - Brighton 1-0 Newcastlepublished at 50 mins

    Tomer Hemed

Yes! It's a goal! A goal! A whole Brighton goal!

Tomer Hemed is in the right spot and sharp, ready to hook a shot into the back of the net after Dale Stephens rises highest to nod the Pascal Gross free-kick back across goal.

    That is more like it.

Now then. This could be something. Brighton have a free-kick deep in Newcastle territory...

'Argh!' shout the Brighton fans as another pass goes astray in midfield. I feel their pain.

  9. Seagulls must soarpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

    Mark Schwarzer

When you have the players of the quality of Knockaert and Gross in your team you have to have a more attack-minded approach. You can't just grind out a result because one point at home to Newcastle for Brighton is not enough.

This is only the sixth game of the season and you cannot get too carried away with saying it is a must-win game but they all add up. For these guys confidence is huge.

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

That's not a great start. Lewis Dunk drives a long ball, designed for Solly March, straight out of play.

  11. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

In true Delia fashion, I'm calling on these 22 players to give us something. Let's be 'avin you! Come on!

  12. Keep the faithpublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

Now I'm wishing we'd just done a Soccer Dog: The Movie and Soccer Dog: European Cup marathon instead of keeping all our eggs in the Amex basket.

No. That's defeatist. We still have 45 minutes to salvage something from this. I'd settle for a goal, any goal, an own goal, one that goes in off Bruno's backside, anything.

  13. Off targetpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

And the award for the worst shot of the first half is shared between Brighton's Anthony Knockaert (11) and Newcastle's Ayoze Perez (17)...

  14. 'Knockaert needs to be more involved'published at 16:49 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

    Mark Schwarzer
Ex-Fulham & Boro keeper on BBC Radio 5 live at the Amex

The Brighton players are trying to get forward and are trying to create chances. Anthony Knockaert needs to be on the ball more. He has the spark and the confidence and self belief to take on players and create something from nothing.

  15. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45+2 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

Er, yeah, hasn't really been worth the wait so far has it?

Unfortunately, the game got less open as that half wore on.

  16. Tired legs?published at 16:46 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

    Mark Schwarzer
Ex-Fulham & Boro keeper on BBC Radio 5 live at the Amex

The quality has dropped off. In the first 15-20 minutes there was energy and creativity and you felt there would be a few goals. Maybe there are a few tired legs out there.

  17. Postpublished at 45+1 mins

Tomer Hemed screams into the sky in frustration. Shane Duffy wins a header in the box to steer the ball back across goal but it is just in front of the striker, who misses out before Rob Elliot.

  18. Postpublished at 45 mins

Newcastle with some late pressure in the half. A dangerous ball from the left from Christian Atsu is behind a couple of men and towards the charging Matt Ritchie but Dale Stephens slides in to clear.

The final ball and the decision making from these 2 teams has been dreadful. Both playing like championship teams.

Christian Atsu almost latches on to a one-two with a team-mate in the box but a tackle from Bruno not only halts him but deflects the ball off the winger and behind for a goal-kick.
