  1. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Brighton 0-0 Newcastle

Oh, Brighton agonisingly close to the opener. Anthony Knockaert sells his marker a dummy and is off. He drives forward before sending the ball wide to Solly March. His cross is knocked back out to 10 yards, where Pascal Gross looks certain to smash the ball in but instead fires against Knockaert and wide.

A very good save by Mat Ryan. He saw it late. He has come into the game under a little bit of pressure following the signing of Tim Krul but he was excellent there.

    Brighton v Newcastle (16:00 BST)

    Warren Aspinall
    Ex-Brighton striker on BBC Sussex

You have seen he (Lewis Dunk) has taken another step forward. The best thing for him was sorting his home life off the pitch and having his first child.

Sometimes when you are the home-grown talent, there is more pressure. His partnership with Duffy has been excellent.

    Brighton v Newcastle (16:00 BST)

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

I think Rafael Benitez was pushed hard last year. That was the year he decided it would be a big challenge for him. He was completely out of his comfort zone. Benitez knows how to organise a side and you just cannot ignore what he brings to the table.

    Brighton v Newcastle (16:00 BST)

Brighton boss Chris Hughton, speaking to Sky Sports: "We played Newcastle twice last season has no bearing. I have been delighted with out level of performance. We were able to score against a very good West Brom team - three goals. Goals are harder to come by in this division but we have them in the team. It is about getting them from other areas than up front."

  19. 'Rafa focuses on the small details'published at 15:46 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton v Newcastle (16:00 BST)

    Steven Gerrard
Former England and Liverpool captain on BBC Radio 5 live

Rafael Benitez always focuses on small details, he's a very organised coach. He makes sure everyone is well drilled. He focuses most on team shape in training. He makes sure every player knows exactly what’s expected of them.

At Liverpool he made sure all the basics were done correctly. The whole week before a game, the messages would be coming out of your ears.

Sometimes I mention the word cold about Rafa and people take it the wrong way. He’s very different in styles to Brendan Rodgers or Gerard Houllier, who talk a lot to players away from the game. He’s just a different style.

With me, he’d try to provoke me to get a reaction going into big games. He’d take me off when I scored twice so I’d be fired up next time.

  20. 'The place will be rocking'published at 15:43 British Summer Time 24 September 2017

    Brighton v Newcastle (16:00 BST)

    Jonathan Pearce
BBC Match of the Day commentator

Brighton had the best home record in the Championship last year and they need to find that sort of form. When this place is rocking it really is - and I think it will be today.

Brighton need Anthony Knockaert to find his fluency and some new signings to hit the ground running.

They are strong at the back and have two good central defenders - the aerial battle could be key today.

Newcastle have really got into gear, I think they will be OK this season. There is a great deal of optimism around the club and they have a match winner in Matt Ritchie.
