Brighton have had a lot of possession but have not really been effective with it. Newcastle look very comfortable at the back. When Newcastle do get the ball and attack they have players getting in between the lines but Brighton on the other hand have players too deep. That is the major difference at the moment.

DeAndre Yedlin is well-placed and alert to intercept as Lewis Dunk tries to thread a pass through the Newcastle defence to find the run of Anthony Knockaert. Had the Newcastle defender not intervened, Knockaert would have been away.

Final ball! It simply isn't there for Brighton. A superb move, started by Davy Propper's brilliant pass down the left to release Solly March, ends unsuccessfully when Pascal Gross' low ball is cut out and cleared.

Better from Perez. But still not quite there. Hesitation in the Brighton defence allows the ball to be played in from the left. It lands at the feet of Perez, who has men around him and pokes an effort over the bar.

Newcastle have come back into this.

Ayoze Perez's turn to shoot out for a throw-in. His initial run is good as he turns and drives but when it comes to trying to curl his shot home he gets it all wrong, opening his foot to send the ball spinning out to the other side of the pitch. It's not quite Geoff Thomas against France but it's pretty bad.

For a second, it looks like the free-kick might lead to something as Rob Elliot fails to gather amidst a group of leaping players but the ball is eventually cleared before it is returned and put wide.

Joselu has to score from there. A mistake from the Brighton defence as Lewis Dunk tries some sort of backheel. Good turn by Joselu but he should score. At the very least get it on target.

What a chance!

In a counter-attack from Newcastle involving Christian Atsu and Ayose Perez, the ball deflects to Joselu off a Brighton leg. He is just eight yards out with the keeper to beat but has to turn to shoot and drags his shot a yard wide of the far post.

Should have scored.

Knockaert from an angle... throw-in Newcastle. Not the Brighton winger's finest effort. He is capable of the spectacular but that was a big slice. Like me off the tee.

Solly March with another cross that has Rob Elliot diving to claim.

Brighton test Newcastle's defence and keeper again. Bruno's cross from the right is flicked away by a visiting defender's head but driven into the six-yard box from the other side by Solly March. If Tomer Hemed gambles he has a simple finish but he hesitates and Rob Elliot dives to palm the ball away.

Anthony Knockaert is the first man into the book for a foul to halt the forward-charging Christian Atsu.
