The Anfield sprinkler system is being given one final pump as the sun arrives in Liverpool. But before we see the players emerge from the tunnel, here's Kenny!

The Reds legend is introduced to the crowd, wanders out onto the pitch which he graced with distinction, waves to all four sides and then disappears. Even Sir Alex Ferguson is up on his feet, saluting his fellow Scot...

Mane is a very clever player for Liverpool and they will miss him today. In and out of possession he will be a big miss for Jurgen Klopp.

Rae: Liverpool v Man United - only one team has a striker and it's not Liverpool, sorry to say.

Thomas Hollern: I'd rather have Chaotic Klopp than Boring Mourinho, but I think today United will sit back, soak it up and score on counter. Three points to United.

Roberto Colombi: I fancy a sending off today at Anfield. What are the odds on Mourinho being sent to the stands I wonder?

A huge banner is being unfurled by the fans in the newly-named Kenny Dalglish Stand - presumably of the main man. And here he is!

King Kenny is lurking around in the Anfield tunnel, beaming broadly and hugging a pair of Dutchmen in Gini Wijnaldum and Louis van Gaal.

We've no idea what Van Gaal is doing down there either.

  5. 'Matic gives an unbelievable balance to United'published at 12:18 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

Lukaku's been getting all the headlines because he will score 25+ goals this season. But Matic gives an unbelievable balance to this United team, releasing the likes of Pogba to push forward.

Holding midfielders have become key in recent years, protecting the central defenders and allowing the full-backs to push on.

Which player could the side cope without if they sustained a long-term injury? I think you could cover for Lukaku, whereas an absent Matic would be a big blow.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is a real superstar in the making for me, so it's an interesting call by Jose Mourinho to leave him on the bench. I think it will be a draw or Liverpool win today.

  7. 'Mane is irreplaceable'published at 12:14 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

Liverpool v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

Sadio Mane is irreplaceable in that Liverpool side. His goals, the way he plays, positionally he's been absolutely fantastic. He hurt his hamstring on international duty in the 89th minute - I bet Jurgen Klopp went absolutely mad.

Barcelona have yet again stated they want to sign Coutinho. This will never stop - Liverpool just have to get on with it. And to be fair to Coutinho, we have to applaud him for his continued dedication.

Eric Bailly and Marcus Rashford both returned from international duty with injuries.

In Rashford's case, the damage is not extensive enough to keep him from taking a place on the bench.

But Bailly joins Marouane Fellaini and Sadio Mane in missing out completely.

I saw Mane arrive earlier, not long after Sir Bobby Charlton. Both were escorted through throngs of supporters by security staff.

Didn't stop them signing a few autographs though.

  10. 'My record at Anfield was not great'published at 12:06 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

Liverpool v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

    David Moyes
Ex-Manchester United and Everton manager on BBC Radio 5 live

Any game at Anfield is always intense but especially if you are manager of Everton or Manchester United. The Liverpool-Manchester United is a big thing, it was a big game for me at United and I lost 1-0 – Daniel Sturridge scored from a corner - even though we played well. It is a different United team that goes to Anfield now, they will go there with a lot of confidence but it is not an easy place to go.

My record at Anfield was never great but at the end of my time at Everton, we topped them, we overtook them in the league. When I was at Everton, Liverpool had an incredible team with Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres, we had to set up to find ways to not lose and work on their weaknesses.

You never really enjoy the game unless you win. As a manager, you go into the game prepared, organised and having done all your work. During the game, you have to trust your players. By the end you decide if you enjoyed it or not.

Muhammad Owais Khan: Moreno for Milner to face Martial? What is klopp thinking? Perhaps this game is lost before even starting...

Mohamud Ali: Why in earth does Klopp consistently play Moreno? Clueless and no guile.

MJC1973: Still can't understand how Moreno gets a start. He can't defend, his crosses are poor and the opposition know it.

  15. Pushing Coutinho forward was natural choice - Klopppublished at 11:57 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

Liverpool v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says bringing Roberto Firmino and Emre Can into his starting XI, and pushing Philippe Coutinho further forward, was the obvious choice.

"These boys are used to each other and they know about each other’s ways, so I think it makes sense against United that we do not make a lot of experiments because they are quite cool in their approach," says the German.

"Of course we have different options – we can put Roberto on the left wing, we can put Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in this position.

“Ox just needs a little bit more time to adapt. He was always interrupted by two-week international breaks; always when he starts taking the next step then international break."

Jurgen Klopp is a really good fit for Liverpool, he suits the club but ultimately they want to win. If you don’t you are out and I found that out. Liverpool played some great stuff last season, they were hard to stop and deal with, if they can rediscover that then they will be in the top four. They have not started this season in that manner and there is a spark missing.

Liverpool do make an impact at the top end of the Premier League, they push towards it and they came close with Brendan Rodgers, but they have not looked like doing that recently.

Sadio Mane is really important to Liverpool and he did very well at Southampton. You look at Liverpool and you can pick their best 11, but with United you can pick two or three teams. That helps during the season. If Liverpool lose one man, they are not the same. They need their best players on the pitch.

  18. 'Exactly what most were expecting'published at 11:51 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

Liverpool v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

    John Murray
BBC football commentator at Anfield for 5 live Sport

The Liverpool line-up is exactly as most were expecting.

The question was, what would Mourinho do here at Anfield without the injured Fellaini and Pogba?

The answer is to play Ashley Young in midfield and bring Darmian in at full-back.

Darmian, Herrera and Martial are all starting for United in the Premier League for only the second time this season.

Liverpool make two changes to the side that was held 1-1 at Newcastle on 1 October.

Midfielder Emre Can and forward Roberto Firmino return to the side as Daniel Sturridge and Sadio Mane drop out.

Forward Mane suffered a hamstring problem on international duty with Senegal - an injury that is likely to keep him out for up to six weeks.

Three changes for Manchester United from the side that started the 4-0 win over Crystal Palace on 30 September.

Striker Marcus Rashford and midfielder Juan Mata drop to the bench while Marouane Fellaini is out with a knee ligament injury. Rashford picked up a knock on international duty apparently.

In come Italian defender Matteo Darmian, midfielder Ander Herrera and forward Anthony Martial.

Manchester United: De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Jones, Darmian, Ander Herrera, Matic, Young, Mkhitaryan, Martial, Lukaku.
