Today is going to be a real battle. Liverpool, as a side, are just too nice.

Just look at Liverpool's defence - Gomez, Matip, Lovren and Moreno. It's the same back line as the last game. Lukaku and Martial will look at that and will be thinking there will be chances today and, probably, goals.

  2. 'The players are under pressure'published at 11:43 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

Liverpool v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

    David Moyes
Ex-Manchester United and Everton manager on BBC Radio 5 live

United look like a team very close, it is looking like between them and Manchester City but Chelsea and Tottenham should be counted too. If you want to be at the level, you have to take these games. The players are under pressure too. United look like a strong side, they can win ugly but they have won with a lot of flair and by big margins so far.

A win would be really important for United. Everyone is talking about how well they are doing but Liverpool will be up for the game. However, both teams are coming back from the international fixtures so you cannot predict how it will go.

There’s a quiet confidence outside the ground amongst Liverpool fans going about their pre-match rituals. gathered. They believe Jurgen Klopp will get them going early on and with the absence of Mane, the home fans say it’s time for The Ox to show them all that money was worth it but he’s only on the bench!

The downside to their thoughts is that Jose Mourinho will spoil the day, they say, by playing ‘boring, boring football....’

The other week Jose Mourinho referred to a tactical option as "the trendy three at the back"... but has he outfoxed us all and done just that today?

  5. 'These games bring the best out of Jose'published at 11:36 British Summer Time 14 October 2017

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live

These types of intensity bring the best out of Jose Mourinho, he likes to throw a curveball in to surprise us all. You love the tension and atmosphere, it helps the size of the fixtures. He mentions the Kop effect and how the fans can impact Liverpool. They project so much energy and passion onto the pitch and gives them confidence. Jose is the one manager who knows how to handle it.

This is now one of their big moments and they will want to put down a marker. This test is as big as it gets. Jurgen Klopp only has one way of playing so Jose will want to nullify that.

Moyes says he had looked at signing Nemanja Matic instead.

I never wanted Marouane Fellaini to be me my first Manchester United signing, that is the last thing me and my staff wanted.

We looked at Nemanja Matic first. He did not do well at Chelsea and had gone back to Benfica. He was a consideration and we did need more defensive type who would make passes from the middle of the park. We did not get a lot of the things we hoped for and got Fellaini on deadline day.

I spoke to Gareth Bale a couple of times and tried to convince him to join us, we even offered Tottenham more money but he had his heart set on joining Real Madrid.

I spoke to Cesc Fabregas on the phone too and he was not sure of his place in the Barcelona team. He said ‘I will join you if I do not start my first game of the season at Barca’...and he did start.

They were the two who looked like Manchester United players.

Liverpool v Manchester United (12:30 BST)

    Jonathan Northcroft
Sunday Times football correspondent at Anfield for 5 live Sport

This is symbolically a very big game for Manchester United. Think of the progress Jose Mourinho has been making at this club - they are once again a club of swagger. There's a great opportunity for United to win today given the recent state of Liverpool.

If Liverpool don't get a result today then their season, in terms of tilting at the title, is over. A 10 point gap will be too much.

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo on 5 live Sport: "There's been a huge amount of progress at Liverpool in the two years since Klopp came to the club. There was a gut-wrenching disappointment here since they just missed out on the title, and they never filled the void of losing Luis Suarez. For Klopp, he's led Liverpool back to the Champions League after his first full season.

"There remains a frustration that the defensive frailties we've all seen this season which should have been addressed in the transfer window. But the fans here have bought into Klopp, who is a very genuine and charismatic guy. He's been taken to the fans' hearts, and most supporters are 100% behind him because Liverpool are very lucky to have a manager of his calibre."

This is a huge game for Liverpool. If they lose, Klopp's position is not under pressure but for United, a loss today would be nothing but a minor setback.

Klopp's record against the other top teams in England is very good, but the injury for Saido Mane is a big, big problem for the hosts.
