Southampton are finishing on top but they won't want to get a kick in the ribs by conceding again! You work so hard to get back into a game so it would be a real blow if Newcastle were to get a third.

Why are you pundits all blaming the defender? Long bought the pen. Cheating - and the acceptance of it - is putting me off this game of football.

Isaac Hayden isn't shy of a challenge and he could have had a second booking again there for catching Virgil van Dijk. Into the last few minutes. Will either team summon a winner?

It's almost as if both teams didn't want to score in this game but we have somehow managed to have four goals. It's all setup for an exciting final 10 minutes now hopefully. There's a bit of tempo and bit of atmosphere now. What more could you want?

    Andy Gillies

Mauricio Pellegrino is a cool customer - facing a third successive home Premier League defeat he's urged his team on calmly from his technical area. And when his team were awarded a penalty to level things up, he simply sat on his seat and applauded when Gabbiadini thumped home the equaliser

Bookings for goalscorers Manolo Gabbiadini and Isaac Hayden as this unexpected thriller ramps up another notch. St Mary's as loud as it's been all day now.

  11. 'Poor error of judgment'published at 17:34 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

    Southampton 2-2 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker, BBC Radio 5 live at St Mary's

Just look at the reaction of the players. It's a bad mistake. Shane Long knows what he is doing and just allows Florian Lejeune to touch him. It's lazy for me and a poor, poor error of judgment.

And what a way to take a penalty! He absolutely smashes into the corner. He has made his mind up early and no goalkeeper in the world would get near that. He has hit that at 100 miles per hour.

That challenge from Florian Lejeune is enough for any manager to pull his hair out. There was no need to make a tackle at all. He had played well all day too.

    A winner to come?

  14. PENALTY SOUTHAMPTONpublished at 74 mins

    Southampton 1-2 Newcastle

    Well played Shane Long!

Not many are better at chasing lost causes and the Irishman hares into the box, but is going nowhere, the ball is going out, but Florian Lejeune can't resist making a tackle. Long sees him coming, pokes it past and that's a clear pen...

  15. 'Get Van Dijk in attack!'published at 17:30 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

    Southampton 1-2 Newcastle

    Steve Claridge
Ex-Leicester striker, BBC Radio 5 live at St Mary's

In a game like this Southampton may as well put Virgil van Dijk up front! They need more physical presence in attack. At the moment Shane Long and Manolo Gabbiadini are not being able to get on the end of anything, while Van Dijk is like a spare player at the back most of the time.

I think Saints' transfer business was clouded by holding on to Van Dijk at all costs - I'd rather the club had bought another striker of Gabbiadini's quality and had several million pounds leftover. And Forster is right to get criticism, but what are our two holding midfielders doing if we keep giving opposition long range strikes?! (See Watford result). Concerning season ahead.
