The fixture computer has obviously never been on an away trip with Newcastle - they've been to Swansea, Brighton and Southampton in their last three away games all on a Sunday - a total of over 2,000 miles travelled - and they're still here in good numbers and good voice.

Rafa Benitez is out of his seat to patrol the touchline. He'll be happy enough so far. Not much has happened but his winger Christian Atsu has had the one chance.

  4. CLOSE!published at 9 mins

Oooh that is close! From the corner the ball is nodded out to Christian Atsu, edge of the box, he shoots first time and snakes an effort through a copse of legs and into the side-netting! Fraser Forster was at full stretch, not sure he would have got there.

Another game of chess? Newcastle do get space in attack after a neat pass from Ayoze Perez but the cross is in weak and cleared. Promising.

This is very much a game a chess. Newcastle like to let teams have the ball in parts of the pitch where it's not going to hurt them then look to break.

Christian Atsu wastes Newcastle's first attack as he can't keep the ball in. It's a low-key opening.

Josh Earl: think Rafa Benitez deserves huge credit for the job he's doing, especially when he was given very little to spend in the summer

I didn't hear any booing or jeering of Virgil van Dijk, I think we can say he has been re-assimilated.

  12. 'We have to play at a certain level'published at 15:56 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

    Brighton 1-1 Everton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton manager Chris Hughton speaking to Match of the Day 2: "To concede so late, it's even more disappointing. We were the side more likely to score and that we did. I just felt in general play, even with their quality, they wouldn't carve us open.

"If you don't put chances away then what happened can happen. We learned that the first game of the season and that was again the case.

"In credit to Bruno, he has had a lot of aerial duels in that second half and generally used his body well. He looked at another opportunity to impede him a little bit, but the referee was right there.

"Generally because there was a little bit of pushing, the referee was on his case more than he may have been.

"We have been in every game and are going to have to play at a certain level - if you play below that you'll get beat. For large parts of the season we have been."

Training ground fights don't happen that often. It's not once a week. Maybe twice a season at most. If it's done out of competitiveness that's fine. If it's born out of frustration then not so good.

When I played at Portsmouth I remember an incident at Barnsley. Before we got to the dressing room one fella had punched the other straight back out.

  16. 'We need a bit of luck'published at 15:52 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

    Brighton 1-1 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Ronald Koeman speaking to Match of the Day 2: "Of course, in this situation that the team is, you need a little bit of luck.

"The first 30 minutes we dominated and the second half, more difficult. It was really difficult to bring them down and they got the goal.

"I'm proud of the players for what we showed after that. We had the belief to get at least one point, and maybe we deserved another two.

"The first goal was defensively sloppy. You need to stay on your feet. You can't go down easily.

"We lost a little bit of control after one or two mistakes in our ball possession. One way to come out of this difficult situation is working hard. To show the belief and commitment of the players.

"In football, maybe it's only one point but it is a different picture. We at least deserve one point today."

  17. Keep it tight!published at 15:49 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

Newcastle haven't kept a top-flight clean sheet at Southampton since February 1969, conceding in each of their last 26 visits there.

  18. 'It feels more like a defeat'published at 15:48 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

    Brighton 1-1 Everton

    Brighton & Hove Albion

    Chris HughtonImage source, Reuters

Brighton manager Chris Hughton on Sky Sports: "Incredibly disappointed at this moment, because of the timing it feels more like a defeat.

"I thought we were good value. Incredibly disappointed in the manner we conceded. We were up against a very good Everton team, but at that stage I couldn't see them scoring.

"I've got no problems with the penalty, Bruno has tried to impede him and the referee was very close and penalised him. When we are in a situation like that, I do hope it evens itself out.

"Wins are valuable and we know every game is tough."

  19. I put pressure on myself - Koemanpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

Everton boss Ronald Koeman talking to Sky Sports: "At least we got one point, I think a point well deserved. We were the better team, most of the time we had good ball possession - maybe we had to create a bit more.

"After 1-0 we showed character and finally maybe had to win the game in the last few seconds.

"We are in a difficult situation but it's one thing to come out of this and show fight like we did today.

"The first goal we are not really attending to the situation. You need to stay on your feet in the situation of Dominic (Calvert-Lewin) and (Morgan) Schneiderlin."

Should Everton have had another penalty for a foul on Gylfi Sigurdsson?

"Yes, it's a penalty," said Koeman. "We can't complain about the referee because he did really well."

On Everton's poor start to the season, Koeman added: "My whole football life is pressure, if I don't get pressure from outside I put pressure on myself."

  20. Another goal for Rooneypublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 15 October 2017

    Brighton 1-1 Everton

Only Frank Lampard (39), Andy Cole (38) and Alan Shearer (37) have scored against more different clubs in the Premier League than Wayne Rooney.

Brighton are number 36 for him.
