    Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City

There's a crispness to City's attacks. Again they come down the left, freeing Leroy Sane and he as time and space. He picks out a man in the middle - no! Well cleared by Ashley Young.

Shot, a shot from United and it's a semi-decent opening too. Jesse Lingard slides a pass into the run of Romelu Lukaku, he has a lot of work to do and is stood up by Eli Mangala and can only slice wide into the Stretford End from 20+ yards. Could he have driven on into the area?

David Randall: Well that’s put a stop to James’ simulcast plan for MOTD2 (17:28). I was looking forward to that.

Richard: If you refuse to play football, you'll lose, no matter how good the players on the pitch are.

Matt: Playing ultra defensive counter-attack at home? In a derby? This is exactly why most United fans didn't want Mourinho.

And right on cue, almost the third goal! David Silva leads a break away, he gets into the area, finds Ilkay Gundogan with a superb late run, he puts it across goal and it's cleared to prevent a tap-in for Raheem Sterling...

    Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City

Marcus Rashford is booked for a petulant bounce of the ball, he has not had much of a look-in in the second half.

A one-goal lead is fragile though, no matter how dominant you are in the game. Just ask Jurgen Klopp.

Actually, probably best not to this evening.

You wouldn't think that City are playing one of the top sides on this showing.

They are so dominant, every player knows what they are doing and United have not got going at all in attacking areas.

As it stands the visitors are 11 points clear at the top of the table. You can't win the league by Christmas. But you can, can't you?

Romelu Lukaku has been an accident waiting to happen defending set pieces today and that attempted clearance was horrendous.

Finally Lukaku makes a contribution against a top six team.

  11. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 58 mins

    Manchester United 1-2 Manchester City

United responded quickly after they conceded first time around. What have they got now?

Here's a change, Eli Mangala is on for Gabriel Jesus. Fernandinho into a different position again as David Silva goes up front.

That was a poor clearance and a huge slice of luck, but it doesn't matter if you're a City fan.

    Nicolas Otamendi

You know Manchester City, always scoring scrappy goals from set-pieces?

That's two in the game and another goal for the increasingly prolific Nicolas Otamendi!

Romelu Lukaku won't want to see this again. David Silva's free-kick is met at the far post by Lukaku, he slams a rushed clearance into the back of Chris Smalling, it loops up and Otamendi finishes superbly. A sort of stretching scissor kick into the net.

Of course they are missing Paul Pogba, but United look more of a threat at the moment than at any stage of the game.

Well played NIcolas Otamendi! Not a sentence used too often but he reads a low cross from Marcus Rashford superbly and cuts it out. A bit more open since half time.

Lovely feet from Gabriel Jesus to weave into the area from wide on the left but his cutback is easily cut out. Kevin de Bruyne then gives the ball away but City recover well once more. It's on a knife edge.

We start as we left off, City having all of the ball. I didn't see an injury problem for Vincent Kompany but we never really know how fit he is at any point any more do we?

Romelu Lukaku isolates Fernandinho - his eyes light up - but Kyle Walker recovers well. City didn't have much defending to do in the first half but they now have a makeshift back four.
