  5. 'What more is there to say about Harry?'published at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 5-2 Southampton

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Sky Sports about Harry Kane: "I think I have said everything. His name is there [with the best in the world], it is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to him and to the team because you also need help from the team.

"It does not surprise us because everyday we see how he works, how determined he is and how professional he is. That can only be good for him.

"Professional is a massive word - you need to include everything there inside and he is a good example of that."

On hopes for Tottenham in 2018: "We are ambitious but I am happy we finish the year in a very good way. For next year? Win - win every game. The mentality is so important for us."

    Tottenham 5-2 Southampton

    Tottenham Hotspur

More from Harry Kane on Sky Sports after breaking the Premier League record for goals in a calendar year.

"It was hard not to think about it, being level going into the game. I wanted to win the game but of course I wanted to score as a striker. Getting that record was a great feeling.

"I've improved physically - recovery for games, getting ready for each game, eating right and ice baths. I feel good and sharp and at my bet at this busy period.

"They are fantastic players here. It's fantastic to play with them. We're a hard team to stop and I said to them before the game to try and set me up and they did that, so I'll have to take them out for dinner."

  7. 'Messi and Shearer comparisons what it's all about'published at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 5-2 Southampton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham striker Harry Kane, speaking to BBC Sport about what he does with all his match balls: "I need to find a room, at the minute they are all just stored in a cupboard at home.

"It has been a fantastic year. To get compared to those players - the Messis and Shearers - is what it is all about. To get another hat-trick is a great way to end the year.

"It is always about improving every year. That's what I always have done throughout my career and it is what I will continue to do."

On the game: "That is probably the only disappointing thing - that we conceded two goals - but we scored five and end the year on a high. Hopefully 2018 is even better."

Phil Cooper: Just watching the pathetic performance of Southampton against Spurs. How can it be said that this Premier league is the best league in the world. Southampton players should be ashamed of themselves. The local Sunday league team would beat them

Imer Cardona: Only a matter of time that Harry Kane joins one of the super clubs. He knows he's quite possibly the best striker in the world and he will soon want to win things

Simon Forrester: Southampton sacking Claude Puel seemed odd at the time; now it appears positively crazy

One of Poch’s biggest successes at Spurs is turning Son Heung-min from a rather selfish makeweight into a now under-rated team player. Harry & Alli may get the headlines but Son is an unsung hero.

  14. 'Spurs need to make sure they don't get detached'published at 14:17 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 5-2 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking
West Ham legend at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live

Spurs are scoring goals because of the players they have got. I can't see them catching City, but what they need to make sure is they get in the top four and that they don't get detached.

  15. Postpublished at 89 mins

    Tottenham 5-2 Southampton

Dusan Tadic is fouled 30 yards from goal and Southampton have a free-kick. Tadic plays it low towards the near post, hoping to find Shane Long, but Danny Rose is there to clear.

Southampton need to do what Tottenham did for Harry Kane and just give the ball to Long every time they attack. That man needs a goal.

These comments are why we won’t win the World Cup. Players and fans alike putting club rivalries over their country. Here is an English striker killing it with goals records in a World Cup season and we are belittling his achievements. Shame.

Michael Reid: So far 'just' the seven goals and record breaking events in the first boxing day match... Hopefully shaping up to be a cracking day!

Rob Bown: Tottenham aren't THAT good - without Kane and Alli they'd be 2-1 down, and neither of then should be on the pitch but for the ref at the City game

Ahmed Muhammed: And that is why Spurs will never win the league. Trashing little teams but rubbish against top six teams...

A positive for Southampton is that they have scored two goals in a game for the first time in a month. That's not so good when you are shipping five in at the other end.

  20. 'Spurs have got sloppy'published at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 5-2 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking
West Ham legend at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live

Spurs have got sloppy. Credit to Pellegrino for bringing on two attackers and playing 4-2-4. They have scored two goals and 5-2 is better than 4-0 with 20 minutes to go.
