Hugo Lloris makes a couple of great saves but he can't keep out Dusan Tadic's chipped effort from a corner. Lloris gets a hand to it but can only help the ball drop over the line.

Goals galore. What a Christmas cracker this game has been.

  3. Postpublished at 78 mins

    Tottenham 5-1 Southampton

Southampton are still plugging away, despite the fruitlessness of their task. The problem is, though, their desire to be positive is leaving them open at the back and Tottenham charge forward four versus three but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg does well to get a foot in and push the ball away from Dele Alli's feet as he cut into the area.

Gavin Cox: Sorry Spurs but I've got a sure fire way of stopping Kane. He's going into my fantasy league team first thing tomorrow

Ankit Kumar: Sad to see Wembley half empty. People not turning up for a guaranteed record breaking day

Jon Evans: Shame Tottenham haven't played this way all season. Look fantastic today. Some cracking passing and interplay

Another excellent shift by Son Heung-min is brought to an end as he is replaced by Erik Lamela for the final quarter-of-an-hour.

  7. 'It was almost like Spurs were insulted'published at 14:01 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 5-1 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking
West Ham legend at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live

Southampton made a positive change and got a goal, but it was almost like Spurs were insulted. What they have got to do now is not let one or two more in as it will be pretty horrendous and they have got that Manchester United game to come, so it is not ideal.

  8. Incredible clearancepublished at 74 mins

    Tottenham 5-1 Southampton

    What a clearance!

Jan Vertonghen superbly smacks away Manolo Gabbiadini's ball across the face of goal while under pressure from Shane Long.

Vertonghen was at full pace getting back to cover, so did superbly to put that ball away from danger.

Alan Taylor: Enjoy him while you can Spurs fans because Harry Kane may be THE best striker in the world, and this is coming from a Chelsea fan. Truly wonderful to watch, only a matter of time before Barcelona/Madrid/PSG come calling

Craig Smith: Spurs have a made habit of hammering smaller teams mid-season over the last few seasons. Can't help but wonder is it their lethal strike force to blame for this, or is the smaller sides not showing the respect they would to the other top sides then getting found out

  10. Postpublished at 70 mins

    Tottenham 5-1 Southampton

It feels like every Tottenham player wants to help Harry Kane score as many as he can.

Son Heung-min now plays a ball forward for the striker but this time Southampton block off the path towards goal. A rare bit of decent defending by the visitors, who are heading for a seventh game without a win.

    Harry Kane

    Harry Kane HAT-TRICK!

It's the best finish of the lot as he clips the ball over Fraser Forster after being put through on goal. You just knew he wasn't going to miss.

What a year for Kane. He won't want it to end.

    Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking

What was interesting was the substitutions, they now have four attackers. I was going to say after the attack that it was a positive change, but it will open them up at the back.

    Tottenham 4-0 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking

Southampton have steadied the ship as they have not let in another goal, but they need to see how interested Spurs are about increasing their tally, and their number 10 will certainly be interested.

Martin Puckett: Long been coming for Southampton, players didn't look interested first half, doubts about players commitment to team and manager obvious! Something change fast or relegation trouble this season

Keith Johnston: Did Southampton get to big headed last year when sacking their manager after a cup final and top 10 finish

  20. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Tottenham 4-0 Southampton

Gasps of delight from the Tottenham fans as Serge Aurier and Son Heung-min exchange brilliant one-touch passes down the right to open up Southampton, but Aurier's shot lets the move down.

It feels like Tottenham have about five more players than Southampton.
