It's Hugo Lloris' birthday today and, so far, looks like being a quiet one for him.

The Spurs keeper shows his eagerness to get involved in the action by racing out of his area to deal with a hopeful ball forward by Southampton.

For all of Tottenham's dominance they have not had a shot on target yet, however.

Serge Aurier has been excellent in these early stages but Matt Targett foils the Tottenham fullback on this occasion with a well-timed sliding tackle just inside the Southampton area.

Alli plays in that little hole, he just drifted out to the left, he could have held it up, he took a side foot volley and it went comfortably over the cross bar.

Just look at how far up the pitch the Tottenham players are. They are swarming the Southampton defence, which is caught out by Serge Aurier's smart ball over the top for a lurking Dele Alli, but his cushioned volley from a tight angle is well over.

Tottenham are actually unbeaten in their last 11 league games played on Boxing Day, nothing so far suggests that run won't be extended to 12.

Southampton are chasing shadows as Spurs pass the ball about confidently.

Tottenham look sharp, they're getting that little bit of space that happens when the back four haven't played together before. It's inevitable, looking at the back four, that they are going to get breached.

Now Fraser Forster parries Eric Dier's drive from distance.

Southampton looking very shaky. Tottenham look like they will score with every attack.

Harry Kane just got in front of his man, and at the moment that back four in front of Fraser Forster looks very makeshift.

It's all Tottenham now after Southampton's bright but brief start and Harry Kane really should have goal number 37 for the year.

The hosts break three on three through Dele Alli, who feeds the ball to Christian Eriksen down the right. He squares for Kane, who plants the ball into the sidenetting from close range.

Big chance for Spurs!

Son Heung-min whips the ball in low and hard from the right, Fraser Forster flaps at it, pushing it straight to the feet of Serge Aurier but his shot is blocked by Matt Targett.

Good start to the game by Southampton as they win a free kick 30 yards from goal. Sofiane Boufal lifts it into the area but Hugo Lloris claims it.

A chance for Tottenham follows as the Saints give the ball away midway inside their half. Christian Eriksen's shot is blocked before Danny Rose's corner is cleared.

It's a big blow for Southampton to have Charlie Austin out. He scored against Huddersfield on Saturday and was looking back to his best but is now suspended for three games and could be out for even longer with a hamstring injury.

Shane Long, Austin's replacement, is eager to impress, chasing a ball into the Tottenham box that he was never realistically going to go get.

The referee blows his whistle, the fans roar and Southampton get things under way.

Time has flown by! Just 10 minutes to go until kick off at Wembley. Plenty of Christmas jumpers on show in the stands, as well as pristine team shirts that you suspect are gifts from yesterday.

Spurs striker Harry Kane needs one more goal to break the Premier League record for the most in a calendar year. He is currently tied with Alan Shearer's 1995 record. Today is his last opportunity to do so.
