  2. 'Mousa Dembele is a big loss'published at 13:43 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 4-0 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking
West Ham legend at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live

He is a big loss. Let's hope it is not too serious. He is the player who knocks it forward, and when you have a front four like that, that is important.

Harry Kane would be even better if he weren't so allergic to silverware.

    Marlo, London.

So much more rewarding to nurture a home grown product as opposed to buying success. Medals are fake- sugar daddy spending vast amounts of money! It's not rocket science.

    Graham.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 54 mins

    Tottenham 4-0 Southampton

A change for Tottenham as Moussa Sissoko replaces Mousa Dembele, who appears to have picked up an injury.

Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino doesn't look to his bench just yet. Whatever change he does make will only be for damage limitation, surely?

Austin RayShawn: Now in typical English fashion watch Harry Kane go on a goal drought next year at the World Cup.

    That's the spirit.....

'Southampton are unlucky there'published at 13:39 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 4-0 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking
West Ham legend at Wembley for BBC Radio 5 live

On the third goal: I think Southampton are unlucky there. They had two or three minutes at one end, but Alli comes inside and Harry Kane moves into an offside position and you could say he got in the line of sight. But from another angle it is a little unfair. But it is a soft goal.

  7. goal

GOAL - Tottenham 4-0 Southamptonpublished at 51 mins

    Son Heung-min

Two in two minutes for Tottenham!

A mistake by Southampton gifts the ball to Dele Alli and off he goes towards the area. He holds the ball up to allow Son Heung-min to get ahead of him before feeding the ball to his team-mate and Son finishes confidently.

What a way for Tottenham to sign off at Wembley for the year.

  8. goal

GOAL - Tottenham 3-0 Southamptonpublished at 50 mins

    Dele Alli

Game over as far as Southampton are concerned as Dele Alli produces a sublime finish to make it 3-0.

Like Mario Lemina a minute earlier, he moves the ball along the edge of the area but instead of going for power he goes for precision and places the ball into the far corner. Lovely finish.

  9. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 49 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

Southampton starting this half like they did the first - on top - as Mario Lemina works a bit of space for himself on the edge of the area, shoots... and hits the bar.

  10. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

Harry Kane has scored 49 goals since Shane Long last bagged. The Southampton striker has a real chance to end his 33-game drought as he charges onto a loose ball over the top but slips as he shoots and Hugo Lloris gathers with ease.

Rob Gibson: Amazing from Kane, even better when he doesn’t score in August!

Yitzhak Kon: And there goes Hurricane past Salah, race for golden boot is on

Daniel Hayes: Is Harry Kane also going to equal Alan Shearer's record of never winning anything

  12. Postpublished at 46 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

Is there any hope for Southampton? Coming back from two-goals down is a big ask but if they can keep Harry Kane quiet...

Tottenham get the second half under way.

Daniel Tinkler: Imagine how many Kane would have if he scored in August and hadn't been out injured for 7 weeks in February. Probably more.

SHINY David Howell: Imagine 2017 Harry Kane in the 2002 England side. That team could absolutely have won that World Cup

  14. Postpublished at 13:26 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

There's plenty of reason for Harry Kane to keep up the goal hunt in the second half. As well as the chance to score a second successive hat-trick, he is two goals away from moving level with Edinson Cavani (50) and Lionel Messi (50) on total club goals scored in Europe’s big five leagues (all competitions) in 2017.

Another three goals will put Kane out in front - but I think that's a stretch, even for Kane.

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

    Sir Trevor Brooking

It's a magnificent achievement, when I was at the FA many years ago, Kane was one of the young players coming through. He's had to work hard. The world is his oyster. I wouldn't bet against him getting the hat-trick.

Very sad to see a number of bitter people trying to belittle Harry Kane’s achievements. Records are there to be broken and he has done exactly that.

    Gerard from Ickenham

Rick from Manchester would have a very different view if he played for whatever Manchester club he supports.... jealousy is a terrible thing.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 26 December 2017

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

Harry Kane attempts a cheeky chip on the stroke of half-time but the ball floats wide.

That's the last action of the half, a historic half for Kane.

  19. Postpublished at 44 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Southampton

Little bit of pressure by Southampton to end the half. Nathan Redmond hits a free-kick into the middle of the area, there's a brief moment of confusion but the ball bounces off the back of someone's head and into Hugo Lloris' hands.
