With the teams around them in the table all having winnable-looking back-to-back games to round off 2017, Chelsea must take advantage of this game, and Stoke at home on Saturday.
They deserved better at Everton.Twenty-five shots was their highest tally in a Premier League game without scoring since January 2014.
Brighton's first win in eight games, against Watford, has restored confidence. It was lovely to see Connor Goldson turning in a man-of-the-match performance nine months after life-saving heart surgery. Shane Duffy's return from suspension gives Chris Hughton a selection headache.
They will be conservative. If they're too cautious, Chelsea will pick them off as Arsenal, Manchester United andTottenham have done. But if they counter with urgency, they could get a surprise draw here against tired Chelsea legs.
Chelsea v Brighton (15:00 GMT)
Chelsea top scorer Alvaro Morata has completed his one-match ban and is set to return for the visit of Brighton.

Bournemouth v West Ham (15:00 GMT)
No side has fewer points at home this season than Bournemouth.
Bournemouth v West Ham (15:00 GMT)
John Roder
Match of the Day commentator
With exactly half the season having now been played, Bournemouth are in the bottom three and West Ham one place above the relegation zone coming into this Boxing Day fixture.
Bournemouth, without a win now in eight in all competitions, weren't expected to get anything from their trip to runaway leaders Manchester City, and so it proved.
David Moyes' comments after the home defeat by Newcastlesuggest it's reasonable to assume Manuel Lanzini will come straight back into the West Ham team after a two-match ban.
It's likely to be a tense afternoon, ahead of an anxious second half of the season for both clubs.
Bournemouth v West Ham (15:00 GMT)
Bournemouth's Jermain Defoe faces a couple of months on the sidelines with a fractured ankle.
Junior Stanislas is likely to miss out after injuring his hamstring in the defeat at Man City, while Joshua King and Charlie Daniels are also doubts.
West Ham midfielder Manuel Lanzini is set to return after a two-match ban.
Captain Mark Noble could miss out again with a tight hamstring and defender Jose Fonte remains sidelined with an ankle injury.

No messing about here - straight to the point...
Unlikely maybe but it would be brilliant to see Mounrinho's smug grin wiped off his face today and put them even further behind City.

Man Utd v Burnley (15:00 GMT)
Guy Mowbray
Match of the Day commentator
In the Premier League era, Manchester United have won 19 games on Boxing Day.
It's a figure no other club comes close to, and they will of course be expected to win this one too.
Might a Claret ghost from Christmas's long past come back to haunt them though?
United and Burnley have met on Boxing Day three times, and Burnley have won all three - twice at Old Trafford, then 6-1 at Turf Moor on the most recent occasion.
That was way back in 1963, which was also baby Jose Mourinho's first Christmas on this earth.
After Bristol Cityand Leicester, another Burnley win would make his 55th, professionally speaking, a pretty miserable one.
"Humbug!"
Man Utd v Burnley (15:00 GMT)
Manchester United's success rate of 83% from 23 games played on 26 December is the best in the Premier League.
That pic is a throwback to this day in 2005.
Man Utd v Burnley (15:00 GMT)
Manchester United could face Burnley without Chris Smalling, who pulled up with an apparent groin strain late on in the draw at Leicester on Saturday.
Antonio Valencia is likely to miss a third game with a hamstring injury, while Eric Bailly, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini remain out.
Burnley's James Tarkowski is still banned and Chris Wood will be assessed after being injured in a collision with Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Stephen Ward (knee) remains a doubt.
Matt Lowton was an unused substitute on Saturday after five games out with a knee complaint.

Tottenham v Southampton (12:30 GMT)
Steve Wilson
Match of the Day commentator
"It must be pretty galling for Southampton fans that the change of manager from Claude Puel to Mauricio Pellegrino seems to have done little to return them to the attacking and inventive team Mauricio Pochettino once built at St Mary's.
"The fact that Puel has suddenly embraced Leicester's attacking instincts must be all the more frustrating.
"Meanwhile, Pochettino's Spurs have lost the consistent excellence which was the hallmark of their last two years.
"Perhaps that was inevitable without the edge that White Hart Lane gave them, but Spurs need an improved second half to the season if they are to finish in the top four."
Huddersfield v Stoke (15:00 GMT)
It's not every day you see a Premier League manager dancing around a Christmas tree with his family - and by not every day I mean you never see it - but Huddersfield boss David Wagner has changed the game.
The man is an absolute legend.
