    Watford v Swansea (15.00 GMT)

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on Final Score

I think Swansea appreciated Carlos Carvalhal's playing style at Sheffield Wednesday - he knows how to set up a team to play good, attacking football. But it's always a case of who's available when you need someone, too.

It didn't end very well for him at Wednesday, but the previous two years he took them to the play-offs and they were unlucky not to get something from them.

    Bournemouth v Everton (15:00 GMT)

    John Motson
Match of the Day commentator on BBC Radio 5 live

Sometimes people forget when we talk about Sam Allardyce's style of play that he was one of the first managers to get into sport science. I remember going to a game at Charlton years ago against Bolton, when Allardyce was manager, and he was there early plugging all the stuff in.

He was one of the first to have the ear piece in, he was one of the first to get cameras in and film the game.

  4. Tough period for the Toffeespublished at 14:52 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Bournemouth 1-0 Everton

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on Final Score

Everton have got a difficult January coming up, with a really tough run of fixtures, but Sam Allardyce will just take it one game at a time. He's done well since he came in, he's got them organised, and they've got a few good players coming back from injury in Seamus Coleman and James McCarthy, too.

  6. Liverpool's next target must be a keeperpublished at 14:51 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Liverpool v Leicester (15:00 GMT)

    Alex Bruce
    Wigan defender on Final Score

I think bringing in a good goalkeeper is the big one for Liverpool in the next transfer window, we've seen this season how big a difference it has made for Manchester City and Manchester United this season, with Ederson and David de Gea. And Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have both made a few errors this year, so I think they'll bring someone in the summer, if not January.

  7. Do you need to rotate a keeper?published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

He's dropped Simon Mignolet, hasn't he?

  8. VVD fills a hole for Liverpoolpublished at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Liverpool v Leicester (15:00 GMT)

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on Final Score

I'm sure Liverpool would have liked to get Virgil van Dijk in the summer, and he probably would have liked to move then, too. But they've got him now, and Liverpool have probably had him identified as their man for a while. I think it's a good move for Van Dijk and Liverpool - he solves a lot of their problems. It's a hole they've needed to fill for a while.

Mark Whines: Player rotation means money rules - pampered players and teams are ripping supporters off. Wonder what Brian Talbot (70 games for Arsenal in 1979/80) or Aston Villa 1980/81 league title winning squad (only 14 players used) make of it all?

    Danny Mills
Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 live

I did a lunch with Sam Allardyce not long ago. He is incredibly innovative and he brought many ideas back from the States when he was over there. He saw they had coaches for everything - coaches to tie laces. They had analysts and he brought that back to here and now it is everywhere.

    If you say so...

Liverpool won't be selling Coutinho in January and because it's World Cup year - he will just carry on doing what he's been doing all season.

Chelsea v Stoke City (15:00 GMT)

    Matthew Upson
Former England defender on Final Score

As a player sometimes you're at a club for a period of time, and you feel like it's time to move on for a new challenge. Eden Hazard has been at Chelsea for five years or so, now, so the preposition of Real Madrid might be too much to resist for him. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hazard go this summer.

    Liverpool v Leicester (15:00 GMT)

Former Leicester City captain for BBC Radio 5 live

Claude Puel has got Leicester playing very nice football the majority of the time now.

No-one in and around the Leicester area is expecting to get into the top six, we would be very happy with eighth. Why can't they be a best of the rest?

  17. Will Eddie Howe change his philosophy?published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Bournemouth v Everton (15:00 GMT)

    John Motson
Match of the Day commentator on BBC Radio 5 live

The only thing that makes me worry about Bournemouth is Eddie Howe has always said he will never change his style of play and all I wonder is if it gets a little bit tight will he compromise his philosophy to get them out of there?

I think once the season is over we shall see if £75m was worth it for Romelu Lukaku and Virgil Van Dijk. I predict today, like in past three months Liverpool would wish again that they had spent that £75m on him over the summer.

  20. The Allardyce effectpublished at 14:27 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

It's the Sam Allardyce effect - he's come in and Everton have become much more direct. He's definitely improved their team, we've seen Jordan Pickford start picking out better passes, the centre-backs are getting better and better, and they're a totally different team to what they were earlier in the season.
