    Chelsea v Stoke (15:00 GMT)

    Stoke City

Stoke boss Mark Hughes has made six changes for today's game, a foolish move against the reigning Premier League champions? Or wise with Newcastle coming up on Monday?

"I have had to make team selection decisions today mindful of the fact that we have another important match on Monday. I have had to use my resources wisely," says Hughes.

"I am confident in the ability of the players that have come in and some of them that have not had too much game time recently are raring to go."

Sam Allardyce is capable of playing with a bit of enterprise. The team he had at Bolton with Anelka, Okocha, Djorkaeff for example, but his recent jobs have been emergency situations - he has sorted them out. His biggest asset is that players play for him. Players I know have said he gets you on board and he gets you into his way of thinking.Getting players on side is massive.

With Sam Allardyce you get what it says on the tin. He is a master of going to a club that is in trouble and lifting them with his coaching philosophy to a respectable position.

I am not at all surprised by Everton. They have some terrific young players, some established internationals and with Sam you get organisation. He has said he will get a goalscorer in January and that is what Ronald Koeman didn't do.

    Bournemouth v Everton (15:00 GMT)

Bournemouth are unchanged from the side which dramatically held West Ham to a point on Boxing Day.

Striker Joshua King has passed a late fitness test to continue for the Cherries in attack while Callum Wilson, who scored that controversial late goal against David Moyes' team, retains his place.

Harry Arter and Charlie Daniels, who have missed the last two games, are among the substitutes.

For Everton Sam Allardyce makes four changes to the line-up which was held to a goalless draw by West Brom at the Hawthorns on 26 December.

Idrissa Gueye makes a surprise return to first-team action after limping off during the 0-0 draw with Chelsea before Christmas, but his central midfield partner James McCarthy is an even more interesting selection. The Republic of Ireland midfielder has not played for Everton since their Carabao Cup defeat by Chelsea on 25 October.

The pair replace Mason Holgate and Tom Davies.

Club captain Phil Jagielka and winger Aaaron Lennon also start in the place of Ashley Williams and Yannick Bolasie.

Wayne Rooney, who has been sidelined for the last two games with flu, is on the bench.

    Bournemouth v Everton (15:00 GMT)

    John Motson
Match of the Day commentator at Vitality Stadium

This is a tale of two sides in very different veins of form.

Bournemouth are enduring a barren run under Eddie Howe with their ever-popular manager seemingly under pressure for the first time, both for results and his methods.

They have conceded 11 goals in three league matches, and are winless in eight. A deviation from their adventurous style may be required to steady the ship and stave off fears of relegation.

Sam Allardyce is an advocate of pragmatism and unapologetic for an often defensive approach, but when you are unbeaten in seven games in all competitions, and have kept five clean sheets, your methods are so much more difficult to question.

  20. What the managers say...published at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 30 December 2017

    Newcastle v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez: "We want to win and we think we can win, but Brighton will be thinking exactly the same. We'll try to score goals and play at the level we did at West Ham.

"These are the games where people expect us to compete and to win, so my concern is to approach the games with the belief that we can win."

Brighton manager Chris Hughton: "Newcastle are a team we know very well, we know they have a lot of quality.

"They haven't had the best of times of late but we know on a good day for them they can be a fairly formidable team, they have enough quality to make them very dangerous opponents."
