I’m feeling more confident than I was after the Slovakia game. It [qualification] is still a long shot but we’ve given ourselves an opportunity.

Wining breeds confidence and the players are starting to play like they believe in themselves and that's a massive thing.

  5. 'Perfect night' for Scotland - James Forrestpublished at 22:29

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

“It was a great performance all round. We looked really comfortable and could’ve scored more goals. We scored three, got three points and a clean sheet. So, it was a perfect night."

  6. 'Job done' for Scotland - Matt Ritchiepublished at 22:26

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

"It was a really positive performance and a good three points. Job done tonight and we move on to the next one. We worked hard on and off the ball - it was very enjoyable."

  7. 'Something to cling onto'published at 22:20

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

Gordon has got the team playing to a higher standard than they did at the beginning of the campaign. But you still look back on these games: Lithuania at home; Slovakia away and they were hugely disappointing. But there’s been improvement since then and that improvement has led us to a position where we’ve got hope. We've got something to cling onto...

More from Scotland boss Gordon Strachan...

"It's getting close to a nice, exciting finish to the group stage. A couple of months ago we didn't see that. Just through the hard work of the players we've got back here."

  9. 'Everybody should be feeling good' - Gordon Strachanpublished at 22:08

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

"Momentum can only really last for a day, because we have to get right back into it tomorrow. I'll see how they [the players] feel, but they should be feeling good about themselves.

"Everybody should be feeling good about themselves. When we set off on Monday, 'do you think we can win?' yes, I think we can win. 'Do you think we're improving?' Yes, I think we're improving.

"'Do you think you're going to have that many attempts at goal?' Maybe not really. It was a varied attack - it came from different angles, which was good for us as well. Everybody joined in."

There wasn't anybody who was below par. Andy Robertson was probably the star man. He hardly gave the ball away and his goal was sensational.

@petenoble1973: Could and should have won by more. Totally dominant, quite superb.

@ak3lly47 should play all our games on sticky plastic pitches!

  12. Scotland were 'excellent' - Gordon Strachanpublished at 22:00

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

"I'm really pleased. At one point, I could become a spectator and enjoy the football. It's not often you can do that as a manager. It was the performance that allowed us to do that.

    "They were excellent."

Gordon Strachan praised his Scotland side following their victory in Vilnius

"We've had [good] footballing performances but also gritty performances that we all remember against Germany, Croatia and England.

"Slovakia won 2-1 here [in Lithuania] and Slovenia drew 2-2. Technical ability, we've got a bit of that, but our main objective tonight was to use our energy. I think the team has changed dramatically in the past 18 months with the energy we've got.

"The technical side was good but I think the energy blew the Lithuanian team away. But there had to be a lot of hard work to get to the point where we used that technical energy."

Malcolm Dunlop, external: Good result, great momentum and makes you wonder what was wrong at the start of the campaign. Strachan may not be perfect but clearly has the respect of the players.

Fraser Thorburn, external: There you go Scotland, why can't you play like that more often? Just shows what having some belief and confidence in yourselves can do.

David Reid, external: Wouldn't get carried away here. Lithuania were abysmal.

  16. Scotland 'have a slight chance'published at 21:50

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

    Tom English
Chief sports writer, BBC Scotland in Vilnius

The Scotland players haven't shown it too often but they are good players. They proved it tonight that they are good, accomplished players. They'll batter Malta [on Monday] and England v Slovakia - that's a humdinger. The way that England are playing, it wouldn't surprise me if Slovakia went to Slovakia and got a point.

Scotland have given themselves a squeak. They're playing with confidence and are in good form. They have a slight chance but they need to win all of these games.

  17. What next?published at 21:46

    FT: Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

There will be more Group F action on Monday evening. Can Scotland make more ground, with minnows Malta coming to Hampden?

We need England to do us a favour at Wembley and Slovenia dropping points would be handy...

    Here's what's coming up:

    Scotland v Malta

    England v Slovakia

    Slovenia v Lithuania

All of those games are 19:45 BST kick-offs.

  18. 'Fine' Scottish performancepublished at 21:45

    Lithuania 0-3 Scotland

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

"I don't think that Lithuania have the quality to find the back of the net. I thought that defensively they were absolutely abysmal and naive. Two of our goals were almost gifts. Apart from that, I thought we were excellent and it was a fine performance.

"It keeps us with hope of qualification..."
