Job done - so far. Despite a couple of early scares, Scotland are riding the crest of a wave in Vilnius. Stuart Armstrong's bullet header and a majestic shot from Andy Robertson have put the visitors into a two-goal lead and right back in the hunt for World Cup 2018 qualification.
"We don't want to give them any hope going in at half-time," says BBC Sportsound pundit Steven Thompson.
The Scots have two minutes plus added time at the end of the first half to negotiate before a sweet half-time orange and an even sweeter two-goal cushion.
Lithuania want to reduce the deficit before the break and, if they're going to do so, the dangerman Novikovas looks the likeliest to net. The lively number 11 engineers some space inside the penalty area but blazes his effort over.
The hosts, two goals down with a little over 10 minutes until the break, appear shell-shocked from that double salvo from Scotland. Gordon Strachan's side will be determined to go in at half-time with this advantage intact.

This is turning into a most un-Scottish scenario - a comfortable, impressive, stress-free away victory. Scotland have a lovely edge to them and plenty of class, too. That gorgeous finish from Robertson came at the end of a move that started in their own penalty area.

Quote MessageThat is absolutely brilliant. Robertson takes a touch with his right then curls it into the top corner with his left. It was like a striker's finish...

It's a moot point now but in this tiny stadium, you can hear quite distinctly the shouts from Gordon Strachan on the touchline. At the corner that led to the goal, he was yelling at either Stuart Armstrong or James McArthur to go for a short corner. "Two against one," he was yelling. Both ignored him and the rest is history!
What a goal! Scotland double their lead in style and it's the Liverpool new boy Andy Robertson. With the ball at his feet at the edge of the area, the full-back clips a wonderful effort into the top corner with goalkeeper Setkus rooted to the spot.
Lithuania 0-1 Scotland
Gordon Strachan will be purring after watching Armstrong's header give his Scotland side the lead. And how important was Craig Gordon's Superman leap through the Vilnius sky to tip away that Novikovas free-kick.

Deserved goal for Scotland. They've had four or five decent moments in this game already and it was critical that one of them was executed. Right in front of the main body of Scotland fans as well. Armstrong will have felt their beery breath on him as he ran to them to celebrate...

Quote MessageIt's a fantastic delivery from Griffiths and Armstrong rose really well to guide it into the bottom corner. It's no more than Scotland deserve. We are the better team
The visitors break the deadlock in emphatic style. Leigh Griffiths whips in a corner kick from the right and Stuart Armstrong rises to bullet a header home with the Lithuanian defence all at sea.
Lithuania 0-0 Scotland
Leigh Griffiths is over a free-kick, what, 35 yards from goal? More Hampden heroics in the offing? Not this time, but the striker, with a swing of his left foot fires a shot narrowly wide.
Lithuania 0-0 Scotland
What a save, Craig Gordon! The Scotland keeper has been a spectator for much of the opening 20 minutes but he displays Ninja-like reflexes to brilliantly tip away a rasping Novikovas free-kick.
Lithuania boss Edgaras Jankauskas looks on in wild-eyed disbelief from his technical area...
Corner for Scotland. Leigh Griffiths fires it into the box, it's flicked on and here comes Christophe Berra... No. The Hearts defender can't get his left boot on it. Another Scotland chance in the opening 20 minutes. It remains goalless in Vilnius.
James Forrest cuts inside from the right and dabs a ball into Matt Phillips. The latter dinks a pass into the box for Leigh Griffiths but it evades the striker and Lithuania survive another Scotland attack.

Quote MessageWe need to start getting some of these shots on target...
Gordon Strachan emerges from the dugout to offer some tactical instruction to James Forrest. The Scots threaten again as Forrest finds Stuart Armstrong but the Celtic midfielder sees his strike whistle just past the post. Better from Scotland.
