All the previous managers have got vast experience and they have all had the same problems.

It needs somebody to go in there, grab those young players, be a little bit aggressive and give them something.

The place needs lifting. There is no positivity. I think it is an attractive proposition.

I wonder whether it can get any lower than it is at the moment. The training ground is as good as any Premier League club though.

Historically, they have one of the best clubs so I don't think it's as bad a job as people are making out.

• Sheff Utd drop from first to third after 1-0 loss at QPR
• Bristol City close in on top two with victory at Fulham
• Derby move up to fifth with 2-1 win at Leeds
• Burton drop to 23rd with 4-2 home defeat by Barnsley

The draw with bottom side Bolton means Sunderland still have not won at home since December 2016.

Assistant manager Glynn Snodin has also departed the Stadium of Light.

The 3-3 draw against Bolton this evening left the Black Cats with just one Championship win in 15 games.

Here is the statement from Sunderland chief executive Martin Bain:

“Simon and his team have worked tirelessly to achieve the best for the football club during their time here.

“While we hoped that Simon’s experience in the Football League would help us to a successful season, results have not been good enough for a club of this stature.

“In order for us to improve upon our current position we believe a fundamental change is necessary.”

Sunderland have just released a statement saying they have parted company with manager Simon Grayson.

It's been a costly night for high-flying Sheffield United tonight, deposed at the top of the Championship thanks to an Idrissa Sylla goal that also forced goalkeeper Jamal Blackman to go off injured after an awkward fall.

United are still well in the mix, but that is their fifth defeat of the season and they did not really test Rangers keeper Alex Smithies.

However, QPR at home are excellent, that's their fifth win of the season at the Loft compared to no wins on their travels. Ian Holloway racks up his 116th win as QPR boss in what was his 300th game in charge. Congrats Ollie.

An eighth league win of the season is wrapped for Bristol City thanks to goals from Bobby Reid and Korey Smith. They stay fourth after both Cardiff and Wolves also won.

Lee Johnson's side have now won their last four consecutive away games at Craven Cottage and have stretched their unbeaten run away from home in the Championship to seven games.

Fulham, who had Aboubakar Kamara sent off midway through the second half, have now gone 17 home games in a row without keeping a clean sheet.

Leeds' poor run continues, with Sam Winnall's double consigning Thomas Christiansen's side to a fifth defeat in their last six Championship games.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga put them ahead in the eighth minute, but a contentious late penalty sent them to a loss.
