Koba Fern: Gareth Southgate turned up to work and a cat ate his laptop. He's making it up as he goes along now. I must say It's not half bad.

Ethan Carter IV: Would be nice if one team had a shot.. this match is Dier...... see what I did there?

Steven Waterman: Loftus-Cheek is the real deal. Done everything right this game. Strength, passing, vision. Already booked himself on the plane.

Johnny Magrinho: For all the 'positives' the pundits and journalists will take from this performance, it's been far from what we needed to see. Germany haven't even tried. At all. And we look exhausted & running out of ideas. The future looks more murky than bright in my opinion

Christopher Crescent: Every time the camera cuts to Maguire or Stones they're talking to each other, I like that

Harry McCrea: We're at home, and playing so defensive that Vardy is sitting on the edge of our box?

England's central midfield has lacked creativity when Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson have been paired together - so this has been a real opportunity for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

And he has certainly taken it with an elegant, purposeful performance. He has shown plenty of subtle touches to go with his surging runs. He's had a good night.

Ben Wire: England don't look burdened with the weight of expectation on their shoulders. Look like they're enjoying it and it's nice to see

John harper: Maybe just for a change we should have England players who really WANT to play for their country not them who failed in the last 2 tournaments

Trevor Lee: Should football follow rugby and have yellow carded players sin binned? Seems no real penalty for 'taking one for the team' and getting booked to stop an attack

  16. 'How do you leave him out?'published at 21:31 Greenwich Mean Time 10 November 2017

    England 0-0 Germany

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live at Wembley

I think this group of England players have put in a really good performance

It's been a bit more flat this second half and I think Germany have had their part to play in that. They seem to have slowed the tempo down.

I look at Loftus-Cheek and I think... he's a problem for Gareth Southgate now. On this display, how do you leave him out?
