Neil Lennon's Hibs fell short against the club for whom he played and managed.

Earlier, Brendan Rodgers was delighted with Celtic's 4-2 win over Hibs as the League Cup holders reached another final.

Ross County manager Owen Coyle was delighted to see his side record their first home league win of the season after having to come from a goal behind.

"We had a slow start, but after that, we dominated," he told BBC Scotland. "The important thing was how we reacted and it was there for everyone to see - we scored two wonderful goals.

"We could have had more if truth be told. Their goalkeeper had some terrific saves.

"The pleasing thing for me was, considering the club hadn't won a home league game this year, it was important to do that as quickly as we could.

"Coming from behind, that shows real desire, real group mentality."

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald sent assistant Scott Paterson to talk to the media.

"It's a happy dressing room, it's one of relief," he said after a first league win of the season that eases pressure on Archibald.

"It was a very tough game, tough 90 minutes, but I think the players showed a lot of character to come through that.

"Hopefully, we can go and build on this now for Tuesday night, next game against Hamilton."

Montrose move up to second after a 1-0 win away to Berwick Rangers, while Peterhead are up to third after coming from behind to record a convincing win away to sorry Clyde.

Stenhousemuir drop to fourth after losing 2-0 away to Elgin City, who move to within a point of the visitors.

Edinburgh City's 1-0 defeat at home to Annan Athletic means there is a four-point gap between the bottom three at seventh-placed Berwick.

Cowdenbeath remain three points behind Edinburgh, with Clyde another two better off.

Hamilton manager Martin Canning did not hold back after seeing his side lost 2-1 away to Ross County and picked out defender Xavier Tomas for criticism.

"It's difficult to take," he told BBC Scotland. "It's another game we take the lead, looked comfortable and we find a way to lose.

"It's a lack of leadership and a lack of someone taking control and making sure we're organised. It's a sore one again.

"It's driving me crazy. We're so naive defensively. Big Xavier has got to do more, he's got to be more of a leader in there, he's got to organise more.

"That's putting a bit more responsibility on Xavi, but as a senior pro in there, he's got to stand up to that.

"We're turning into experts at finding a way to lose a game. I think that's four of the last six we've gone ahead and we've lost every one of them."

With League One leaders' Raith Rovers' match away to Stranraer being abandoned, Ayr United move to within two points of the Kirkcaldy outfit thanks to a 5-0 hammering of Forfar Athletic.

In the division's other game, Alloa Athletic were convincing 4-1 winners over East Fife.

St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright lamented his side's lack of quality in front of goal in their defeat by Hearts.

"It was a poor game and neither side probably deserved to win," he told BBC Scotland.

"Hearts unfortunately got the good fortune at the goal.

"In the first half, we got into good positions, but we couldn't cross a road at the moment.

"I think it's our final ball and it's been that for a few weeks now.

"The beauty of a midweek game is that we have a chance to bounce back on Tuesday."

Hearts manager Craig Levein was just happy to get three points ahead of Tuesday's Edinburgh derby against Hibs.

"It was a bit of a war of attrition, but we were the team that managed to see the game out," he told BBC Scotland.

"I'm pleased. We don't have a good record against St Johnstone recently.

"Kyle Lafferty gives everything every week and he's still getting up to speed and I think he deserved his goal for his endeavour.

"He got a goal today, but I was even more happy with his attitude."

Leaders St Mirren have been held away to Falkirk after the Bairns' second 0-0 in a draw since Paul Hartley took over as manager.

Dunfermline Athletic leapfrog visitors Livingston into second place - now two points behind the Buddies - thanks to their convincing 3-1 win at East End Park.

Pre-season favourites Dundee United lose further ground after a 2-0 defeat at home to an Inverness Caledonian Thistle side who jump above Falkirk as they continue their recovery from a poor start to the season.

Queen of the South's 1-0 win away to Brechin City takes them into fifth above Greenock Morton, who were held at home by Dumbarton.

Brechin are now six points adrift of Falkirk at the bottom.

Two goals in the last 15 minutes hand Thistle what for long looked an unlikely win.

Thistle remain bottom of the table, but they are how only behind Kilmarnock on goal difference, although the Ayrshire side have a game in hand.
