  4. Allardyce feels Everton threw the towel inpublished at 19:56 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

    Everton

A bit more from Everton manager Sam Allardyce, this time speaking to BT Sport: "I think the defining moments in the game, we thought the second goal was offside, probably the same with Wayne's (Rooney). If you go 1-0 up here you have something to defend.

"OK first half, looked pretty comfortable but when the second goal went in and if it was offside it was a killer, but that doesn't allow us tho throw the towel in and relinquish that defensive responsibility.

"Too many of our players decided not to defend anymore when Tottenham had the ball. I'm hugely disappointed in the professionalism of my players today. It's out of order. Play your way back into the game and be professional about it. It shocked me. I haven't seen it since I got here. I've got to cut it out, starting tommorow.

"We haven't got a lot of pace in the side. We got a new player (Cenk Tosun) on the pitch that's never played in the Premier league. It's down to hard work. Tottenham can beat anybody by a lot of goals but they should have had to work a lot harder than they did.

He'll (Tosun) find out what it's all about physically and mentally and hopefully his goal scoring ability will help us. We keep foregoing the clean sheet to try and get a result and not getting a result. We need to go back to basics."

    Any word on Theo Walcott?

"I'll have to wait and see tonight or tomorrow what the situation is."

  5. 'We showed great character'published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a massive performance. Fantastic. I am so pleased. Congratulations to our players because the effort was fantastic. The three points are important because the top four is so tough.

"The performance was very good, the players showed great character. I don't think we conceded a shot on target.

"Son Heung-min is doing fantastic in the last two or three months. His belief and confidence is amazing. To congratulate Harry is also important with two more goals today. It is a fantastic achievement."

Terry, York: Everton fans need a reality check. Spurs are better than them - pure and simple. Don't crucify your team on one performance. Allardyce has done well since taking over.

  7. 'A completely undisciplined performance'published at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

A bit more from Sam Allardyce, on why his side collapsed in the second half: "Lack of professionalism. When you go two goals down after half time and basically relinquish all the gameplan we had set out through the week Tottenham will cut through you and punish you.

"The second goal was offside but if it is not given it is not a decision we can control but what we can control is ourselves and control the discipline and determination not to let Tottenham score again.

"It was a completely undisciplined performance after the second goal went in which hugely surprised me on what we were setting out and hugely surprised me by the players who were on the pitch."

  8. 'We need to become more boring'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

Interesting analysis from Sam Allardyce, who thinks his side need to become "more boring than they were today".

"It was a bit of a shock, the performance in the second half," he told Match of the Day. "I would have expected it would be a tough game but I was also relatively comfortable at half time. It was surprising to see the collapse. That is what it was, a collapse of organisation and professionalism.

"The defending basics have gone out of the window and it is a question about being a bit more boring than we were today.

"I would sooner see us at the back end of Match of the Day than the front end."

Gavin: Four beautiful goals, silky football, Son and Kane destroying Big Sam's defence. Now the happy wait for the train home...

Prince: This thing about Harry Kane being a legend is far-fetched considering some clubs have a couple of hundred goals as a record to beat. To me, this mediocre record has become possible because Tottenham has not been a force to reckon with and still isn't.

  10. 'It's good that Jimmy's record is so far!'published at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, speaking to BT Sport: "It was a fantastic performance. I think we fully deserved the victory. It was a game we must win, a massive three points.

"Harry Kane is such a talented player, so professional and I am very happy. He deserves all the credit and a lot of praise. In this way he will break all the records in the Premier League.

"The good thing is Jimmy Greaves' record (all-time top Tottenham league scorer with 220 goals) is far so not every week he is going to break something."

Darren: The 4th goal by Tottenham is a case study of one-touch passing.

Lee: Wembley curse? 10 games unbeaten, just need to replicate this against City, Chelsea and United.

  12. Wembley feels like home now - Sonpublished at 19:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

    Tottenham Hotspur

Son Heung-min told Match of the Day: "It was an unbelievable performance from us, we deserved to win, everyone enjoyed it, to play against them.

"I enjoy every game at Wembley and I try to show my best performance every game. We play every home game, everyone feels like this is our home.

"For us, now it feels like home. It's not our real home but we really enjoy this stadium."

On his celebration: "I just really enjoyed it, without supporters it's difficult to score five goals in a row. To catch Harry (Kane) is impossible, he's one of the best strikers in the world. I'm a big fan of Harry."

Glen: Fans calling for Allardyce's head already need some perspective. They were 16th when he took over with only 12 points from 13 games. Even after today's defeat they are 9th with 15 points from 10 games. That is a big improvement.

  15. Postpublished at 19:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

Tottenham remain fifth after the win but crucially they are level on points with fourth-place Liverpool, who are home to Manchester City tomorrow.

Steven: The class of the 'Top 5' is so obvious, they're miles above Everton currently. Our only chance is to catch Arsenal. City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea & Spurs are just miles ahead of us.

  17. 'It could have been a cricket score'published at 19:22 Greenwich Mean Time 13 January 2018

    Tottenham 4-0 Everton

    Bradley Allen
Ex-QPR striker on BBC Radio London at Wembley

Often getting the first goal has been a challenge for Spurs at home in the Premier League, but once they got that, they never looked back. Spurs were ace today and Everton were well beaten - there could have been more than four goals for the hosts - it could have been a cricket score.

Kevin: Spurs just need to bring in that consistency game to game. Easily as good as any of the top four, bar City.

Jace: Harry Kane is brilliant but Son is equally important. Absolutely beautiful football to watch.

Gerry: This is as bad as anything under Koeman. It seems years since Everton have played an attacking game. Why didn't we have an experienced left-back lined up to sign for us on 2nd January? Can we go back and get the Watford manager? This awful lack of any plan other than hoof it up the field wasn't acceptable when he stopped us losing games, now it's just an embarrassment to our great club.
