I like the cut of Moritz Bauer's jib too. The new Stoke right-back is up and down the right flank like Cafu (as says Conor McNamara). His latest run comes to nothing though.

Every now and then Paul Pogba shows what he can do - just like that. A first time, perfectly flighted, perfectly weighted pass with his left foot, 65 yards from right to left into the run of Luke Shaw. Sensational.

It ends with Anthony Martial having a shot deflected clear.

Juan Mata plays a one-two with Antonio Valencia and goes down! No penalty, clearly in fact.

It looks like a dive but let's give Mata credit, he stands up and shakes his hands in a 'no, no' sort of gesture. I think he just lost his footing in the endless Trafford rain. He's not booked as a result.

Paul Lambert must be delighted with the intent he's seen form his new side out there. Either that or tearing his hair out at the naive attacking line up. I don't recall too many Lambert sides having a go like this away from home to the big boys. Correct me if I'm wrong Norwich and Villa fans...

Stephen Ireland has been superb - albeit he should have scored at least once already.

United have been quiet but come to life as Romelu Lukaku comes out to the right, checks on to his left foot and flashes in a fine cross which Kurt Zouma flicks away, brilliantly. Great defending.

Stoke could, maybe should, be in the lead now! Peter Crouch nods the ball down, David de Gea is nowhere, the De Gea of 2011, and it falls for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting about eight yards out.

He's on the stretch, sliding in, but he makes good contact and it's going in until Phil Jones makes a great block. Superb defending, poor goalkeeping...

This is a more even game than you may have expected. In fact it's Stoke making most of the attacking running at the moment. Paul Pogba has to haul down the unplayable Stephen Ireland.

Stephen Ireland keeps getting in that box but nobody checks him. He's run through the whole lot of midfield and just has to hit the target and he scores.

That was a brilliant chance for Stoke. The forgotten man was forgotten by the Manchester United defence. Nobody tracked him at all!

For a team in the relegation zone Stoke are showing plenty of intent. Joe Allen gets them moving and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting hits a shot from the edge of the area, deflected but straight at David de Gea.

Chance! Ah that should be 1-1! Stephen Ireland is not tracked again and he slides a shot just wide...

Stoke have a good spell, extended possession, Stephen Ireland involved a lot. Nemanja Matic tackles him really well to break it up and at the other end Joe Allen makes a rash tackle on Jesse Lingard on the edge of the box.

Free-kick in a good area for Juan Mata. Into the wall.

Chance! Stephen Ireland has all sorts of space in the penalty area to collect a ball from the right but he panics and screws a shot well wide. Manchester United switched off.

Megs! Stephen Ireland nutmegs Paul Pogba as Stoke start a decent counter, but Darren Fletcher eventually gives the ball away. Stoke get it back though, Moritz Bauer is freed on the right and his cross is hacked clear by Nemanja Matic.

Good from Stoke though.

That early goal has given the hosts a boost in confidence, Romelu Lukaku finds a nice backheel to send Jesse Lingard into space. He tees up Antonio Valencia again but his effort is blocked this time.

The Stoke line-up, which we described as attacking, looks exposed at the moment. Men in red in a lot of space.

Paul Lambert didn't have to wait long to make some notes. But there's a decent attempt! Xherdan Shaqiri launches into an ambitious scissor kick and hits it on target. Easy save for David de Gea.

You might say it's his weaker foot but it's still a very good left foot. Josh Tymon needs to get closer. But you can't argue with the strike, no keeper is saving that.
