    Swansea 0-0 Liverpool

Monday night football hasn't been kind to Swansea - they've lost their last three matches played on that night, conceding three goals in each.

The first threat of a test for their defence as Joel Matip launches the ball forward for Sadio Mane, but he's flagged offside.

RodneyMcCain: Jimmy Armfield was a giant of the game, and even though he was well ‘before my time’, I felt I’d got to know him through his fabulous radio commentaries on Five Live.... I’m desperately saddened to hear of his death, he was irreplaceable.

dwoodley1990: I will never forget the voice of Jimmy Armfield, the many many stories he told every game he co-commented on or programmes he appeared on whilst I was growing up in the 90s and 2000s. Football has lost a great man. Thank-you for the memories Jimmy, and RIP

Swansea will try to restrict Liverpool. That's fair enough - if you do not have the same amount of firepower then it is not really worth trying to take them on.

But I think Liverpool will get the job done one way or another.

  11. How will Swansea line-up?published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    Michael Pearlman

No, seriously, how will Swansea line-up?

Interestingly, there is genuine confusion with Swansea fans as to how the side is going to set-up against Liverpool. Five at the back seems certain, that's been Carlos Carvalhal's preferred approach so far, but ahead of Swansea's back five? Will Nathan Dyer play as a striker? It appears so.

Swansea have scored less goals this season than Mo Salah and it's arguably not hard to see why based on tonight's selection.

That win over Swansea on Boxing Day marked the start of a five-match winning run for Liverpool. A sixth successive today would strengthen their bid for a top-four finish, moving them five points clear of Tottenham in fifth.

Swansea may be rooted to the foot of the table but Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is expecting them to provide a stern test of his side's attacking strength.

"I can't imagine any easy games in the Premier League and Swansea is for sure not an easy game," he said.

"We played Swansea a few weeks ago with a caretaker manager and I said after the game it was much more difficult than the result could make you think, so we know about the specific challenge in this game."

Roberto Firmino scored two of Liverpool's five goals against Swansea on Boxing Day. That takes his total against the club to five in just three games.

MarkMspalmer74: As expected Sanchez professes his love for his new club, I’m sure had City matched his pay packet he’d have gone there & said same. Football is lost since days of Armfield I’m afraid

Tim_Purcell: The word legend is used too quickly these days, but is completely appropriate when used to describe Jimmy Armfield. Grew up with his wonderful relaxed commentary. Football has lost a true gentleman

Jonboynixon: Sanchez is a very good player indeed, but what must Pogba, De Gea, et al. be thinking after hearing of the wages he is on, because he is not twice as good as they are.

CFCWarrior: Sanchez and Mkhytharian professing their lives for their new clubs when we all know its simply their bank balances and personal survival that drive there choices. Save it

gandalfthewise: With Messi, CR7, Neymar and DeBruyne off limits, #Alexis was best money cud buy ATM! Given the potential of Lukaku, Martial/Rashford, Pogba n Sanchez operating together it does appear a fwd line as good as any. IF it works out, it will be worth every penny spent!

So soon? Swansea fans may ask.

Yep, it's just 27 days since these two sides last met in the Premier League, Liverpool dishing out a 5-0 thumping at Anfield.

Fortunately for Swansea one of their chief tormentors that day - Philippe Coutinho - is no longer at the Reds. And the Swans have a new man in the dugout.

So quite a bit has changed in less than a month, could the outcome be different this time?
