Scotty06121989: People will talk about @Alexis_Sanchez reported wage. They must forget this is Manchester United. They CAN afford it and it's not money from the middle east. Not to mention the amount of revenue Sanchez will generate over his contract from shirts etc.

rahulrashid: So Sanchez joins Man Utd which again proves that players are only in for money purposes and not footballing. Good luck but you will not be a superstar there as you were at Arsenal & eventually will fall out with Mourinho

AshishP17: Arsenal got the better deal. Sanchez was leaving either ways, his performances were deteriorating, always sulking, giving away balls and if Ozil don't sign extension, then arsenal somewhat filled that gap too. Usually JM rejects turn out good afterwards

Carlos Carvalhal has picked up four points from his first three games to ensure Swansea have not been set adrift at the bottom just yet.

However, there is little margin for error, with clubs above them like West Brom and Stoke finding an new upturn in form.

Liverpool began life without Philippe Coutinho by recording their most impressive win of the campaign so far.

Becoming the first team to beat Manchester City in the Premier League is no mean feat, and with Virgil Van Dyjk due to return from his hamstring complaint, Jurgen Klopp will be hopeful of extending Liverpool's unbeaten run to 15 league games.

Sad news today after it was revealed former England captain Jimmy Armfield has died aged 82.

Armfield, who played a club record 627 times for Blackpool, was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad, but did not play in the final.

Type his name into Twitter and you will see hundreds of messages describing Armfield as an absolute gentleman and indeed he was. I remember once phoning him for an interview, which turned into a 10 minute chat about going walking in the Lake District.

BBC Radio 5 live are remembering Jimmy Armfield right now and will also look back on the life of "voice of football" in a special programme: "Jimmy Armfield: A Football Gentleman" from 22:00 GMT tonight.

  10. 'Mkhitaryan = Sanchez? Preposterous!'published at 19:09 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

On form, Mkhitaryan is swift, a confident mover with the ball at his feet, controlled in possession, neat in the passage of play. The ability is there. Maybe, now, the confidence is not.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger's challenge is to restore Mkhitaryan to what he used to be - because to those who have watched him in Manchester, the idea of Mkhitaryan being Sanchez's equal is preposterous.

Alexis' slow jam is just the latest of the weird and wonderful ways clubs have been unveiling their newest recruits to fans in the social media age.

Ever since Paul Pogba's return to Old Trafford last year was accompanied by its own social media strategy and #Pogback hashtag, clubs have been eyeing new ways to announce incoming players, managers and kit deals.

  19. How much!?published at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 22 January 2018

If reports, external are to be believed then Alexis Sanchez will earn £500,000 a week at Manchester United, apparently that's more than Paul Pogba and David De Gea get combined.

Could make for some awkward moments when paying for the bill at a restaurant.

Sanchez is so versatile - he can play left, he can play right and he can play down the middle as centre-forward, or as a number 10. He is an excellent signing for United.

You have got a player who can play in four positions, so where he is used might depend on the form of their other forward players, and also what Mourinho wants to do in certain games, because we know he likes to tinker with his team.

One thing United have probably been lacking, although Jesse Lingard has done very well at it, is supporting Romelu Lukaku and coming from a little bit deeper and getting goals.

That is the sort of role I could picture Sanchez playing in - around and behind Lukaku in a sort of free role as a number 10, ahead of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic.
