Everton boss Sam Allardyce to BBC One: "I don't think there's any doubt about picking a strong team but this is our fifth game in 14 days. We have had to cope with injuries and we haven't had many good results.

"This is the strongest side we have got and we will try to win. We have to stay in the game and try and score the first goal if possible.

"Nobody wants a replay. The FA Cup, it's a glory game and players have to produce. Liverpool are playing very well.

"The one thing we won't be doing is playing open, expansive football. Liverpool would play through us."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to BBC One: "It's even more special being a cup game. There are not many good things you can think of in January but a cup game under floodlights against Everton is one of them. It's cool.

"We have always picked players who are able to play in the FA Cup. Virgil van Dijk comes in, he is fresh, he's not 100% fine tuned but there is no pressure. It's a big opportunity for him, he is looking forward to it.

"He only has to do his job."

Jose Mourinho himself also seems confused by this hotel chat.

The Portuguese also shrugged off the hotel issue, saying his choice not to buy a home is down to him being "very lazy".

"If the fans want me to be comfortable, that's the way I feel very comfortable," he said.

"I don't want anyone to be worried because I live in a two square metres room, I am living in an apartment inside of a hotel, where I have all the comfort, the support, where I have everything I want.

"If they want me in some house that I don't like, in some place I don't like, lonely from my assistants, if they want that, I would be a sad guy and a sad guy doesn't work well."

Why does everyone feel the need to point out how many changes Klopp makes every game? And it’s seen as being “risky?” If Pep does it he’s seen as a tactical genius but it’s different when Klopp does it? Rotation is key.

Manchester United make five changes from the 2-0 win over Everton on New Year's Day.

Sergio Romero replaces David de Gea in goal, as he often does in cup games. Chris Smalling and Daley Blind replace Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo at the back, Marcus Rashford is in for Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan replaces Nemanja Matic.

Derby actually make more changes from their New Year's Day game - six from the side who drew 1-1 with Sheffield United.

Former United youngster Tom Lawrence, ex-Liverpool defender Andre Wisdom, Alex Pearce, Sam Winnall, Marcus Olsson and George Thorne are all in.

They have three former England internationals - Scott Carson and Tom Huddlestone start, and David Nugent is on the bench.
