Chris Boyle: Van Dijk is either going make a mistake to let Everton score; or curl in a free kick from 873 yards. No in between
Johnny Magrinho: Very happy Van Dijk has been slotted in right away. He’s been looking forward to joining Liverpool, he’s hungry to play and could quite easily become our long term captain sooner rather than later. Imagine if he heads in the winner in the 90th minute... goosebumps..
Ben_Edgecumbe: Van Dijk starts in the Merseyside derby. Is it written in the stars for him to score the winner at the Kop end?

Here come the sides at Anfield!

Former Newcastle striker on BBC One
Liverpool's defensive record at Anfield is pretty good, but it was obvious they needed to improve in defence.
Virgil van Dijk will make them better, there is no doubt about that. They have made a lot of individual errors in defence, that is where Liverpool have had to improve and they have been punished for mistakes.
They have been nowhere near good enough defending set pieces - that has been a huge problem. They have shored up their defence with Van Dijk and if they get a new goalkeeper they won't be too far away, but obviously they won't win the league this season.

Everton will have an estimated 8,000 fans inside Anfield tonight for this Merseyside derby FA Cup third round tie. They are digesting the news that Ross Barkley has signed for Chelsea while they are still waiting for the £27m signing of Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun to be confirmed.
Usual frenetic atmosphere inside Anfield and Liverpool fans have concerns of their own about the future of Philippe Coutinho, who is looking increasingly likely to move to Barcelona.

Liverpool need a top keeper. They don't have steeliness.
In terms of expansive, attacking play they are brilliant but they lack a bit of authority to see games out.
Manchester United v Derby (20:00 GMT)
Almost time to get under way in tonight's games, Old Trafford and Anfield are filling up.

Glenn Lindsay: Great to see @LukeShaw23, external getting a run of games. Still believe he's our best option at left back, even in a transfer window. Mourinho needs to have some faith and work to improve him instead of tearing him down all the time

Goals will come for Dominic Calvert-Lewin. After the success of so many of our England youth teams, the players need chances and he has had chances. He's made 33 appearances, he's been involved in nearly all of Everton's games.
When a big club are relying on you it's difficult at a young age but he has got Wayne Rooney to play with.

Danny Murphy
Former England midfielder on BBC One
Ideally Everton need two of Wayne Rooney - one in midfield and one up front. He has done terrifically well in that side to get the goals he has got.
He is a terrific footballer and he is a leader, the fact he was not playing was ridiculous for me.

Sam Allardyce has had bad press about his style of football, at Bolton he had Okocha, Djorkaeff, Anelka. Liverpool have pace so there's no use playing a high line.
But you have to score goals to win games. Everton haven't had many chances recently. they have to have a threat.

Everton
It is now 6,675 days since Everton last won at Anfield. Their last victory on the Red side of Stanley Park came on 27 September 1999, when Kevin Campbell scored a fourth-minute winner.
Since then they have drawn 10 and lost 10 of their 20 visits in all competitions - scoring 12 and conceding 33

When you look at the priorities of all the big boys, the FA Cup is probably four out of five - after the title, Champions League and European qualification.
It’s so important for Liverpool to have a right good go in this competition. When you look at the success Arsenal have had in this competition, if it wasn’t for that Arsene Wenger might not be in a job now.

It's a long time since Everton got a result here. The FA cup is a trophy, I love it, it's the first trophy I won.
For Everton tonight it's a massive, massive game. I know Sam will keep it tight but I hope when they get the ball Everton get on the front foot.

Virgil van Dijk is a big presence and a good footballer, he's better than what they had. I know he was desperate to play tonight. I'm looking forward to seeing him play.
