  1. Always up for the cup...published at 13:03 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

    Chelsea v Newcastle (13:30 GMT)

    Back to Stamford Bridge.

Now here's a mighty impressive stat. Chelsea have reached round five of this competition in 17 of the last 19 seasons. That my friends is consistency.

There's a lot being said on delays, injury time, you name it, when it comes to VAR. It makes me wonder how Fergie would have dealt with things? He'd have been bashing a that watch like a kid playing drums on some saucepans.

Keep sending us your VAR thoughts to #bbcfacup.

Phil: I was at Anfield last night and it was all a bit of a circus. For the fans who have paid good money to watch, it was a shambles. The fans in the stadium didn't have a clue what was going on and the fourth official only gave four minutes of injury time in that first half?

Mark: Fans inside the stadium need to be aware of what is happening. Officials should be on mic during their decisions and the footage they are seeing played on the big screen.

Rob, Sussex: Stop going on about the fans in the ground not seeing the var, they are the minority of people watching the game. tv viewers far far outnumber them

  4. 'VAR a farce'published at 12:57 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

    John Motson
    Match of the Day commentator

Over on Radio 5 live, John Motson has had his say on VAR...

I thought it was a farce to be honest. I've been against VAR from the start, call me a dinosaur, but football has been doing fairly well since it started. Then we had fourth officials and goal-line technology added but this is too far - it's almost like we're looking for incidents just to justify its use.

We're using marginal things to justify the use of VAR and that's without going into the delays - it was a long time that the game stopped last night while the referee goes to the touchline. The whole beauty of football, the global audience of the Premier League, is it's exciting, its constant, the crowd get involved and it's end-to-end. Now we have this eerie silence where nobody knows what's going on.

  6. Bark on the benchpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

    Chelsea v Newcastle (13:30 GMT)

Ross barkley on a programmeImage source, .

As our team news shows, Ross Barkley will not start a fixture for the first time since May. He's on the bench.

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte had intimated he may start as Chelsea have a glut of injuries. The cynic in me thinks Conte was using this talk to basically beg his board for new players. A football manager would never do such a thing though, right?

  7. 12 year wait to end?published at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

    Chelsea v Newcastle (13:30 GMT)

Newcastle haven't had much luck with this draw have they. A long journey on a Sunday morning and they face a team with some real pedigree in the competition over recent years.

The Toon have not reached the fifth round since 2006. That's pretty remarkable.

  8. TEAM NEWSpublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte makes four changes following the midweek League Cup exit at the hands of Arsenal.

Gary Cahill, Davide Zappacosta, Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi return for the home side.

Willy Caballero remains in goal with Thibaut Courtois out with an ankle injury, with Conte also without Alvaro Morata due to a back problem.

For Newcastle, it's five changes as Rafa Benitez rotates his squad ahead of Wednesday's league meeting with Burnley.

Chancel Mbemba, Massadio Haidara, Henri Saivet, Matt Ritchie and Dwight Gayle all return.

Chelsea: Caballero; Rudiger, Christensen, Cahill (c); Zappacosta, Drinkwater, Kante, Alonso; Pedro, Batshuayi, Hazard.

  11. Blake's magical momentpublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

Cardiff v Manchester City (16:00 GMT)

Looking ahead to our afternoon game today, may I suggest you digest this video.

Nathan Blake's sumptuous strike saw Cardiff City eliminate Manchester City back in 1994. Blake was a cult-figure at Cardiff at the time and he lived up to his billing in a famous win.

Watch him recall the emotions, backed by some emotive music for added impact.

Keep them coming. Remember I want to know what moment you wish VAR had been around for - on the pitch or at home (maybe even Sunday League).

Also, tell us how you want VAR to work in the game now. What needs to change?

Andrew: One decision for VAR if I could? FA Cup Semi Final, Replay, Nick Henry of Oldham Athletic hit the bar and it appeared to cross the line but wasn't given. VAR could have meant a first final and ended Fergie's management of United.

G Williams: Obviously Frank Lampard 2010 World Cup. That goal stands, and with the momentum, we go on to win the whole tournament and Lamps takes his rightful seat next to the other footballing gods where he dwells for eternity.

Rob Ward: Come on - there can’t be more of a time needed for VAR more than Lampard's “goal” against Germany at the World Cup!

Ah yes, that moment in 2010 that almost certainly stopped England winning the World Cup...

    Peterborough 1-5 Leicester

What was your goal of the day on fourth-round Saturday? I particularly liked the Kelechi Iheanacho volley in the early game. Great delivery, classy finish. Watch it below. That's how you deal with the threat of a David taking on your Goliath.

    You got your own favourite?

  17. So close...published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2018

    Newport 1-1 Tottenham

So we had one big shock on Saturday as Wigan wiped out West Ham but we so nearly got a bigger one at Rodney Parade where Newport came within a whisker of dumping Tottenham out.

We'll be switching or attention to south Wales later today of course for Cardiff City v Manchester City. Is there something in the air down there this weekend?

You can watch the Newport-Tottenham highlights below.

Scouse Mick: To stick my oar in about VAR, I was sat at Anfield but needed to check BBC text to see what was going on. I paid £60 for my ticket, but VAR was a closed box to me. Right or wrong decisions, it HAS to change.

Keith: VAR should only be used for yes/no decisions like offside or whether the ball has gone out of play. Liverpool's penalty was still highly debatable even after 3 minutes, whereas Southampton's 'offside' goal in the 2017 cup final, for example, was clear cut.

Kyle: VAR is great. It will get most decisions right. It was always right yesterday. Plus the length of it didn't stop the flow of the game or the spectacle. It was a terrific cup tie.

With a total of four minutes and 46 seconds stoppage for VAR, do you think it significantly disrupted the game's flow?
