  1. "The game has gone soft"published at 13:18 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

Stephen Warnock, speaking on MOTD2 Extra about Pep Guardiola's decision to name only six substitutes: "There's plenty of talent in the City under-18s.

I think it’s a statement from Pep to the FA and refs, to give them (his players) a bit of protection.

It's a great chance for a young boy to be on the bench, to see how the top players and the manager prepare for a game.

It could spur them on to give an extra 10 per cent and you could find a gem.

I think too many yellow cards are handed out too quickly but the way players are getting taken out, they need protection.

But I do think the game has gone soft."

  2. 'Everton were embarrassing'published at 13:16 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

    Arsenal 5-1 Everton

    Alan Shearer
Former England captain on Match of the Day

Arsenal were brilliant and they could have scored six or seven goals. From an Everton point of view, if ever there was an example of football coming back to bite you, it was this – after Sam Allardyce suggested in his press conference before the game that Arsenal’s defence was weak. Everton were all over the place. They were embarrassing. They were hopeless defensively in the first 45 minutes.

Brighton produced a composed performance to beat a lacklustre West Ham 3-1 at the Amex yesterday.

They had not won a league fixture since 23 December but picked up a win thanks to goals from Glenn Murray, Jose Izquierdo and Pascal Gross.

Brighton climbed to 13th in the table, a place below West Ham but both sides sit three points above the relegation zone.

  5. 'Moura debut unlikely'published at 13:12 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

    Liverpool v Tottenham (16:30 GMT)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs haven't completed a league double over Liverpool since 2010/11, but The Lilywhites will be buoyed by a convincing mid-week victory over Manchester United and confirmation of new signing Lucas Moura from PSG...

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino on Lucas Moura: "He was yesterday doing some tests with our sports science and medical staff.

"Today he's in Paris doing private things. We hope tomorrow [Saturday] he can start to work with the team. I don't want to say yes or no, but I don't believe it will be possible for him to be available.

"Our expectation and his is to try to help the team as soon as possible."

We'll have some breaking team news to bring you shortly for Newcastle's trip to Crystal Palace this afternoon and we will find out if any of their new signings will feature.

  8. Sako injury blowpublished at 13:08 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

Crystal Palace v Newcastle (14:15 GMT)

Crystal Palace forward Bakary Sako will miss the rest of the season with a fractured ankle and damaged ligaments, Roy Hodgson confirmed earlier this week.

He suffered the injury during the 1-1 Premier League draw at West Ham on Tuesday and it is no doubt a massive blow.

Sako has scored six goals this season, despite starting just seven games and he scored twice in Palace's last four games...

  9. 'Man City were wasteful'published at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

    Burnley 1-1 Man City

    Alan Shearer
    Former England captain on MOTD

Manchester City were wasteful. There’s not many times this season we’ve been critical but they should have finished this game off. Some of their approach play was brilliant, but they were so wasteful in the final third. Raheem Sterling’s miss was the worst of the lot. He was two yards out. It was a sitter. That was the game changer. Once he’d missed that, you could just sense that Burnley will get a chance and they might just take it.

  10. "I'm very angry"published at 13:07 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

Everton boss Sam Allardyce was understandably fuming following his side's thrashing at the Emirates.

    Matt Rehead: Me. Obviously...

Paddy Emerson: He should have put a big box of tissues for him, his players and the supporters whinging about injuries.

What could Pep have chosen to be his seventh substitute against Burnley?

  12. Lookman scores on debutpublished at 13:02 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

    Borussia Moenchengladbach 0-1 RB Leipzig

Ademola Lookman struck the winner on his debut three days after leaving Everton on loan as RB Leipzig won at Borussia Moenchengladbach.

The 20-year-old moved on deadline day despite Sam Allardyce urging him to take a loan in England.

After being on the pitch for 11 minutes, Lookman drove into the bottom corner for an 89th-minute winner.

He became the first Englishman to score in the Bundesliga since Owen Hargreaves at Bayern Munich in 2005. Impressive.

  14. "Lucky charm" Rihannapublished at 12:58 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

Rihanna has emerged as the unlikely inspiration behind Arsenal's thumping 5-1 win against Everton...

    Apparently.

The singer was at the Emirates to watch the match and enjoy the Gunner's work, work, work, work, work ethic. (I'm sorry!)

After the match, she posed with midfielder Mesut Ozil, who described her as the team's "lucky charm".

The German said he was "still unbeaten with Riri" - a reference to when she came to watch the 2014 World Cup Final between Germany and Argentina.

richiestone: Pep Guardiola should have named Yaya Toure’s missing birthday cake as his seventh sub.

SS_Sutty: Pep should name a first aid kit as his seventh substitute, just in case another player is injured.

What a performance it was from Arsenal yesterday - though Everton were extremely poor.

New boys Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan hit the ground running with a debut goal and a hat-trick of assists respectively.

It was also a good day for Aaron Ramsey as he picked up his first career hat-trick.

Many believe Arsenal had a successful January transfer window, despite losing Alexis Sanchez but will it be enough for them to secure a top four spot come the end of the season?
