  1. 'Lennon looked a different player after switch'published at 12:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

    Burnley 1-1 Man City

Burnley weren’t in the game in the first half. What Sean Dyche did was switch Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Aaron Lennon. He started them on opposite wings, left-footer on the right, right-footer on the left, and they got a bit lost. In the second half, Lennon looked a different player. It seemed the Burnley players were happier in the roles they were given. They just looked more balanced. It was a clever bit of tactical nous from Sean Dyche. What Burnley did really well in the second half was put super balls in the box. When you do that, you will get chances, no matter what the quality of the opposition.

Dave Kidd on SportsDay: "They’re never happy, these top managers. Antonio Conte has been moaning since the summer. He got three quality signings in the winter. He got Olivier Giroud, Ross Barkley and Emerson Palmieri, so there’s not an awful lot to moan about.

It’s a team who won the title last season and brought in plenty of reinforcements.

I don’t understand why Guardiola didn’t fill the bench either and claim he didn’t have enough players, it’s just nonsense."

Of all the things from yesterday's action which surprised me the most, it was the fact Pep Guardiola could only name six substitutes for Manchester City.

So, I want to know what things Guardiola could name as his seventh substitute?

  5. Pep "has no more players"published at 12:36 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2018

    Burnley 1-1 Man City

Manchester City named only six substitutes for Saturday's 1-1 draw at Burnley.

City have spent £418m on their squad since Guardiola arrived in 2016, but seven senior players are out injured.

Asked if it was a surprise that City could not field a full squad, Guardiola said: "Yes, but they are injured."

He added: "We do not have any more players."

It wasn't a good day for Pep Guardiola and his side as they let slip two points at Turf Moor, allowing Manchester United to bridge the gap from second very slightly.

With City 1-0 up and less than 20 minutes away from their 23rd league win of the season, Raheem Sterling somehow missed from six yards.

That buoyed the home crowd, as did Sterling's substitution soon afterwards, and Johann Berg Gudmundsson levelled for Burnley with eight minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, at the bottom the fight for survival really is wide-open. Brighton and Southampton picked up vital wins yesterday so that leaves nine teams separated by just three points. There will be more drama and movement from today's game between Crystal Palace and Newcastle I'm sure.

Crystal Palace v Newcastle & Liverpool v Tottenham

We've got another cracking day of football today as the race for the top four has taken on new heights following Arsenal's successful January transfer window.

The Gunners picked up a huge 5-1 win over Everton to put pressure on Liverpool and Tottenham's Champions League hopes - and the two sides are going head-to-head in this afternoon's late kick-off.

Before that game, Crystal Palace host Newcastle - a battle between 15th and 16th - and the result of that match could change the entire look of the bottom half of the table.

It's a bit bonkers at the moment really.
