    Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham

Christian Eriksen feeds a ball through, with Harry Kane sniffing. Trent Alexander-Arnold takes no chances, even though Loris Karius is off his line ready to gather. The full-back clears the danger, and denies Tottenham's dangerous front man an opening.

Tottenham have responded well, after such a blistering start from Liverpool.

Dembele is a fantastic player in the middle of the park and Henderson can't keep up with him.

Lovren and Van Dijk have started well though.

The roof almost came off Anfield when Mo Salah scored. I wonder what Mauricio Pochettino made of that defending?

    Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham

Liverpool's Sadio Mane chases down Davinson Sanchez down the left, and the Spurs defender makes a mess of his clearance. Mane is away, with support in the middle, but Jan Vertonghen cuts out the cross. Hugo Lloris gathers the resulting corner, and the danger passes.

At the other end, Kane finally gets his first touch, in the 12th minute.

  5. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham

A sign of how well Liverpool have started; Harry Kane has not touched the ball in the opening 10 minutes.

  6. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Liverpool 1-0 Tottenham

Liverpool have now scored in the opening 10 minutes in three successive home games. Worth remembering that neither of the previous two - against Manchester City in the league and West Brom in the FA Cup - ended 1-0. Could be plenty of drama to come yet.

Such a positive start from Liverpool. It started with Karius.

Firmino went through a couple of challenges, Dier tried to play the ball back, Salah reacted and just sliced it past the goalkeeper Lloris.

It was poor from Dier and Salah was alert.

    Mohamed Salah

Well, that didn't take long. Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino combine to work the ball through to Mo Salah, but it's Eric Dier's touch that lays the ball through for the Liverpol forward to roll the opener past the exposed Hugo Lloris. Twenty Premier League goals for the season for Salah - just one behind Harry Kane now.

In fact, it ends up being Spurs' Eric Dier who nudges the ball into Salah's path with a mis-timed backpass.

    Liverpool 0-0 Tottenham

Liverpool kicking towards the Kop in the first half, as they did in that memorable win over Manchester City last month. If this game is anywhere near as good as that one, we are in for a treat.

Sadio Mane has the ball on the edge of the Spurs area, but runs into traffic.

Nope. Still goalless. Pochettino's men are clearly going for the more patient approach today.

Mark: Klopp is starting with Lovren after what happened at Wembley? He must be hoping that Dejan redeems himself.

Jack Kilbride: It beggars belief that Lovren still starts. He's made more errors leading to goals than any other player

I get why Van Dijk didn't play against Huddersfield; his manger was protecting him.

Livperpool have got to be much better collectively as a back four.

It surprises me that Lovren starts, but with Matip on the bench, it's a huge vote of confidence for him, that he's going to be Van Dijk's partner.

    Liverpool v Tottenham (16:30 GMT)

The teams are out on the pitch, so here's a recap of the team news from Anfield for you. Liverpool make two changes to the side who won 3-0 at Huddersfield on Tuesday; Virgil van Dijk is recalled in central defence at the expense of Joel Matip, while Trent Alexander-Arnold replaces Joe Gomez at right-back. Van Dijk partners Dejan Lovren, who had a torrid time when Liverpool lost 4-1 at Spurs in October.

Liverpool XI: Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Lovren, Robertson, Can, Henderson, Milner, Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Substitutes: Mignolet, Moreno, Matip, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijnaldum, Solanke, Ings.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Alli, Son, Kane.

    Newcastle United

Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow: "First half we were very good and had a lot of chances, played some good football, second half they came back at us and we did well to hold on to a draw.

"(My head) is woodwork at the minute, not my friend! But we've shown we have got a lot of fight and can hopefully get out of this relegation battle.

"A sloppy five, 10 minutes from myself that could have been better. We have a lot of grit and desire and will go to the very end."

    Liverpool v Tottenham (16:30 GMT)

Mind you, if Liverpool have scored more, nobody has been quicker off the mark this season than Tottenham. On Wednesday, Christian Eriksen scored the fastest goal in the top flight this season, taking just 11 seconds to find the net against Manchester United.

Not that Liverpool need any warning about Tottenham's attacking threat. Mauricio Pochettino's side won 4-1 in the reverse fixture at Wembley in October. Kane scored twice that day, although Salah was on the mark at the other end.
