Corner for Newport! And fans are delighted!

  3. CLOSE!published at 92 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Kyle Walker-Peters is the next Spurs player to have a pop at goal. He hits it smoothly too but his effort from outside the box flies just over the cross bar.

He looks annoyed at himself for it too.

  4. Postpublished at 91 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

It's just a case of holding out for Newport now. Tottenham are trying relentlessly to get that third goal but so far they haven't been able to get it past Joe Day.

He's probably been Newport's best player today - though Frank Nouble has produced a few moments of spark on the left wing.

Jamie Robinson: I think it’s safe to say Llorente won’t be at the club next season. He's wasted so many chances to score. He should have bagged at least two today but cannot find the net.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 89 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Danny Rose was substituted just before that effort from Alli. He's had a good game on his return from injury. Toby Alderweireld looks set to complete a full 90 minutes too.

Lots of positives for Mauricio Pochettino.

  7. CLOSE!published at 87 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Dele Alli comes close again but his effort is well saved by Joe Day. The Newport keeper has made some great saves tonight.

Much better balance from Tottenham than against Liverpool. Some players actually managing to stay on their feet.

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Newport have barely seen the ball in this second half and their heatmap (on the right) shows that.

Tottenham have tried everything to score a third but they seem to have lost their shooting boots...

I think it is unlucky for Dele Alli as his first touch is a bit too heavy. You can see what he is trying to to do, but he just gets too much on it.

Spurs have been quite wasteful in the second half and Newport could have been starring down the barrel of a five or six goal defeat.

  11. Lamela denied a third Spurs goalpublished at 21:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Here's Eric Lamela's earlier opportunity which was stopped by Newport County goalkeeper Joe Day.

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Dele Alli, who has just come on as a substitute, makes an excellent run in behind and he's picked out by Christian Eriksen.

His first touch is perfect but he tries to chip Joe Day and gets too much on it as it crashed into the cross bar.

Tottenham should be in double figures here.

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Christian Eriksen has made a difference since coming on for Tottenham. He's injected a bit more energy and all of their attacking moves are now coming through him.

He wraps his foot around the ball in an attempt to catch out Joe Day from distance but the Newport keeper does well to touch it around the post.

Just contrasting the performances of Son and Winks for Spurs. Son is always looking for a positive option. For me Winks is like so many English midfielders currently, safety first and afraid of making a mistake. Keeping the ball is fine as long as you do something with it at some stage!

Fernando Llorente should have scored two goals in the last five minutes...

Christian Eriksen plays a wonderful ball into the box and Llorente, on the volley, strikes it inches wide yet again.

He was in tonnes of space.

  16. 200 games for Pochpublished at 21:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Tonight is Mauricio Pochettino's 200th game in charge of Tottenham in all competitions. He's won 109, drawn 47 and lost 43 so far...

He can probably add another win to that.

That was lovely play from Tottenham. Erik Lamela chips it into Fernando Llorente at the far post and he is in acres of space.

Llorente should hit the target but he misses by inches.

David Randall: Tottenham 2-0 Newport. The hottest topic in the pub is whether Harry Kane was offside for the first penalty last Sunday.

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

That was a nice passage of play from Newport and the resulting free-kick asks some questions of Michel Vorm.

The Spurs goalkeeper deals with it well and his side then break forward - almost creating a chance for Moussa Sissoko but the midfielder is offside at the back post.

  20. Postpublished at 72 mins

    Tottenham 2-0 Newport County

Joss Labadie wins a free-kick on the right as Danny Rose comes in late. Matthew Dolan is looking to pick out Padraig Amond but the Newport striker can't get involved in the game.

Labadie then tries to drive forward down the left and he wins another free-kick from Juan Foyth.
