More from FC Basel coach Raphael Wicky, who has been explaining how his side grew in belief as the game went on.

Wicky said: "The game did not start as we imagined and it was a difficult situation when we went behind after eight minutes. Playing a team like City, it can turn out really difficult.

“So I am very proud of the team, they produced a really good performance.

"We tried to play football and we did that and we found that there was space we could create and with two or three passes we could get into the final third. I think in time the team realised that perhaps we could get something out of the game."

On being the first team to beat City at Etihad Stadium this season: “It is special for us that we are able to beat this team and go out of the Champions League with a decent performance in a very difficult task."

  2. Wicky: "City are one of the top two or three teams in the world"published at 22:42 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2018

Man City 1-2 Basel (agg 5-2)

    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

FC Basel coach Raphael Wicky, asked if his side have gone out of the Champions League to the competition’s future winners?

“That is really difficult to say. For me, Manchester City are one of the top two or three teams in the world at the moment - they have showed that for months in all competitions, playing every three days, why they are one of the top favourites for the Champions League.

“But we all know the Champions League is a competition that depends on the form on the day and the draw has to go right so it is difficult to say how it will go, but in terms of quality and momentum then this team is clearly one of the top two or three teams."

  3. 'Tough to take'published at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2018

    Tottenham 1-2 Juventus (agg 3-4)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier speaking to BBC Radio 5 live: "We had a lot of chances in the first half and put in a great performance. It's a difficult one to take.

"[Juventus] changed their formation and they had a lot of the ball, we just need to settle down a little bit.

"The lads are gutted because of the way we started the game. It's a tough one to take.

"We wanted to come out fast in the second half, but they killed the tempo out of the game."

  4. 'We forgot to attack'published at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2018

Man City 1-2 Basel (agg 5-2)

    Manchester City

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola to BT Sport: "I'm so happy to be in the quarter-finals because it's quite new for us.

"We forgot to attack in the second half. We have to pass the ball to attack, not pass to pass. We forgot to try to go through and make a moment, runs in behind.

"Some players were tired. When you make changes, your level isn't the same. Congratulations to Basel. It's not a problem to concede those two goals.

"It was the first time Gabriel Jesus played 90 minutes since his injury so that's good for him."

Thought Giorgio Chiellini was just a nasty brute of a defender? The Juventus centre-back has just given an insightful, emotional post-match interview which showed what a nice fella he is.

He says that Juve believed they could exploit Spurs' weaknesses - namely their bottle - and paid a tearful tribute to Italy team-mate Davide Astori.

    Full quotes to come.

  6. 'We deserved more'published at 22:11 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2018

    Tottenham 1-2 Juventus (agg 3-4)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino speaking to BT Sport: "In less than three minutes we conceded two goals - two big mistakes - and that is why we are out.

"In both legs we deserved more. I feel proud. We played fantastic football until that first goal and we dominated.

"Of course we are very disappointed but it is part of growing. We will keep going. But we are very disappointed.

"We created a lot of chances. It is clear that we deserved a lot more. In football it is not about deserving, you have to score goals and not concede.

"They [Juventus] only came to our goal two or three times - not much - but they have quality so if you make a mistake they will score.

"We played another massive team. For us it was tough. It was very positive for the future. You need this type of game and experience to build you as a player to compete at this level."

Over the course of the two games, but for 15-20 minutes, Tottenham dominated a big European side.

They can count themselves unfortunate but they will have to learn lessons from it.

The most important thing for Spurs is not to lose their heads. It's a disappointing defeat but it's important that there is no wild reaction. Keep this group together. They are building something special and it will come.

Keep Kane, keep Alli, and keep the core of this team, and I'm sure they will win a trophy.

We've talked about Spurs showing a bit of naivety and former England skipper Rio Ferdinand picks one interesting example for Juve's second goal.

Davinson Sanchez, who had an otherwise decent game, got sucked in by Gonzalo Higuain's movement close to the halfway line, allowed him to turn too easily and then pick out scorer Paulo Dybala.

Ferdinand says the Spurs centre-back should have fouled Higuain after getting dragged out there.
