Chelsea wing-back Marcos Alonso tells BT Sport: "They have Lionel Messi and I think they were the better team even though we competed well in both games. If we concede easy goals and miss the chances, then it is very difficult against this team.

"We knew they have top players and we cannot give them one metre because they can create and score. We were a little bit unlucky with he first two goals, we hit the post three times, had so many chances in both games. We have to improve and when you lose, you have to train and get better.

"They were not comfortable in the first half and we just missed the chances. It could have been 2-2 at half time but at 2-0 in this stadium, against this team, it is not easy to come back."

Lee Kibbey: Genuinely feel sorry for N'Golo Kante and Willian, they've been let down by the rest of the team.

Michael Papadopoulos:You feel that Diego Costa would have made something happen tonight.

Caval Canti: On the "bright" side, Chelsea getting knocked out at the Round of 16 will mean fewer games, more rest and a better chance at making the top four.

  7. 'It unraveled so quickly'published at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 14 March 2018

    Barcelona 3-0 Chelsea (agg: 4-1)

    Chris Sutton

The frustration will be that there was all the talk was of this perfect performance [that was needed] and it unraveled so quickly with such a poor first goal with the error that Thibaut Courtois made.

Chelsea responded and came back into it and then Cesc Fabregas makes an error for the second. Basic errors have cost them.

You get brutally exposed at this level by the top sides. Antonio Conte though did not lose his players tonight.

Antonio Conte shakes hands with his Chelsea players but saves his warmest hug for Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

The two cover their mouths as they engage in conversation.

"Come to Chelsea, pleaseeeeee," Conte is probably saying to him.

Chelsea have just not been able to breach this Barcelona backline.

There's an inquiry going on in that Chelsea back-line. Paulinho should have scored but it was smart goalkeeping from Thibaut Courtois.

    Almost a fourth.

Ivan Rakitic curls in a corner which Paulinho meets with a free header, but Thibaut Courtois leaps high to his left to tip the ball away.

A superb save and the Belgian goalkeeper showing us what he is capable of.

Craig: I think people are getting a bit carried away by saying that this is a great performance. They’re losing 3-0... or am I missing something?

Lifa Nati: Thibaut Courtois' heart is no longer at Chelsea and his performance tonight proves it. They should just cut their losses and get a player who wants to play for the club.

Freddie Caine: So the only English teams in the next round are the ones that played Basel and F.C. Porto...
