  2. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 45 mins

    Barcelona 2-0 Chelsea (agg: 3-1)

Agonisingly close to pulling one back.

It is a fabulous free-kick from Marcos Alonso, whipped with pace over the wall and past the reach of the diving Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, but the ball cannons off the post.

    You cannot get any closer.

Willian booked by the referee. Not sure why. He was only distracting the Barcelona wall.

It's an interesting half time for Antonio Conte. Against Manchester City they didn't have a go but here they have got nothing to lose now.

Will he make changes and bring people like Alvaro Morata on?

    Now then.

Striker Olivier Giroud spins Samuel Umtiti on the edge of the box and goes down.

Rather softly, but never mind. Free-kick for Chelsea on the edge of the box.

What can they make of it? It suits Marcos Alonso from this angle.

Alex S: You've got to admire this from Barca. Football heaven, and I'm a Chelsea fan!

John M: Pedro should of started ahead of Cesc Fabregas and although we shown some effort, that 2nd goal has just killed us.

Sean O: Samuel Umtiti is like a one man bus for Barcelona. He gives a huge level of confidence to them at the back.

Two huge chances for Chelsea. Initially it's Marcos Alonso and then It's N'Golo Kante. Cesc Fabregas' arrival just puts him off. They were the chances.

Chelsea get a number of chances, they should be putting one away.

Firstly, Marcos Alonso thumping effort is pushed away by Marc Andre Ter-Stegen before Olivier Giroud's follow-up is blocked by Samuel Umtiti.

Barca cannot get the ball away, N'Golo Kante runs clear into the box but drags a left-footed shot a few yards wide.

The Frenchman looked like he was put off by the presence of his own team-mate Eden Hazard there.

Sloppy. Sloppy. Sloppy from Chelsea. Gerard Pique was in and six or seven yards out that would have been very difficult for Thibaut Courtois to keep out if he'd connected.

The odds keep stacking up against Chelsea.

Barcelona have never lost a match at home in the Champions League when Lionel Messi has scored, a run of 30 matches.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger looks ruefully at the referee, like a kid whose mum has asked him if he ate the last cookie from the jar. Who me??

The German is beaten all ends up by the trickery of Lionel Messi and has to bring him down.

    No booking though.

Messi swings the free-kick in and it just needs a touch from a Barca player, but thankfully for the Blues, it drifts straight into the hands of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Chelsea look like they will be joining the latter.

Luke: Chelsea need to wake up and respond. They don't want to go out the same cowardly way the Man United team did last night.

Isham: Can someone remind Cesc Fabregas that he is playing for Chelsea tonight?!

Jay: We've made three mistakes across the entire tie and Barca have scored each time.

    Outnumbered.

Willian bursts forward for Chelsea and reaches the edge of the box, but then has five Barcelona shirts to contend with and the hosts manage to win back possession.

I don't see Chelsea scoring twice tonight.

Antonio Conte called Barcleona skipper Andres Iniesta "a genius" before the game.

He is an absolute joy to watch.

Barcelona work the ball into the box, Iniesta plays a majestic back-heel into the six-yard box for Luis Suarez, but the Uruguayan's shot from a tight angle is blocked by Thibaut Courtois.
