I remember watching QPR v Everton in December 92. Everton were down to 9 men and had come from 3 down to 3-2 and were putting us under the cosh chasing the equaliser, but even in that situation Ray would still slap hands with the young fans in the corner when he took a corner. I got his autograph before the game and he asked if I would mind if he used his own pen! RIP.

Liverpool v Man City (19:45 BST)

    BBC Sport at Anfield

Since goals from Jack Dyson and Bobby Johnstone gave them a 2-1 win here in a fifth-round replay on their way to winning the 1956 FA Cup (the Bert Trautmann final for those out there who like to accuse them of lacking in history) Manchester City have won at Anfield on only two further occasions out of a total of 49 visits.

A Bruce Grobbelaar horror-show helped City to a 3-1 victory on Boxing Day 1981, in the same game that his opposite number Joe Corrigan was knocked out by a bottle thrown from the Kop.

But their only success of the Premier League era came before they were under Abu Dhabi ownership, when former Reds loan striker Nicolas Anelka, whom Liverpool had turned down the chance to sign permanently the previous summer, popped up to score a 93rd-minute winner in May 2003.

So it is safe to say this has never been a happy hunting ground for City - but how much will that history count tonight?

    AC Milan 0-0 Inter Milan

How on earth are Inter not ahead!?

Again they get clear of the AC Milan defence through Ivan Perisic. He squares for Mauro Icardi but Gianluigi Donnarumma is wise to it and palms the ball away.

Feels like a goal is coming.

Former England defender Terry Butcher on Ray Wilkins:

A sad day. The eulogies and praise for him I have heard are justified. Though I'm not sure words can can describe how much light and laughter he brought to football. He was a great player and professional. I'm still pretty choked up to think about his passing.

You don’t expect him to go at 61. I saw him not long ago and he was full of life as he always was. It is such a loss, he gave so much to so many.

He would love to play in the Premier League today and would grace it. He could pass the ball for fun. He was a fans man, loved mixing with the fans

He made you laugh. You didn’t laugh at him, you laughed with him.

    That was an incredible miss!

If anyone does that at Anfield tonight they may never hear the end of it.

    AC Milan 0-0 Inter Milan

HUGE chance for Inter Milan as Mauro Icardi somehow misses an open goal from six yards out.

Antonio Candreva crosses from the right and Icardi, who has scored 24 Serie A goals this season, uses his heel to turn the ball wide from so close in.

Was it showboating? Did he decide that was the best way to score from there? Or did he just miss the ball with his other leg? Either way, one for the blooper DVDs.

Here's my effort. Let's be honest, I added a few more Liverpool players after my first draft...

If this tie isn't an absolute classic I'm going to give up on football altogether.

But who would you pick in a combined XI of the two teams?

Ederson or Loris Karius? Vincent Kompany or Virgil van Dijk? Fernandinho or Jordan Henderson? Leroy Sane or Sadio Mane? Gabriel Jesus or Roberto Firmino?

Make your selection here and share it on social media.

I don't feel so bad about leaving out Raheem Sterling now.

Tonight is the 17th time English clubs have been paired together in Uefa competition, and while City have been involved in just one of those previous ties, this is the 10th domestic affair for Liverpool in the European arena, including five of the nine Champions League knockout contests.

Chelsea v Liverpool in 2008-09 featured 12 goals over the two legs, a quarter-final record.

Could that go here? Let's hope so!

Barcelona make three changes from the 2-2 draw with Sevilla. Lionel Messi, who came on to score in that game following a hamstring injury, comes back into the starting XI. Sergio Busquets returns from a foot injury and Nelson Semedo also comes in.

Philippe Coutinho is ineligible so misses out, with Ousmane Dembele and Paulinho dropping to the bench.

Sergi Roberto, a Catalan Steve Watson, plays on the right side of midfield with fellow right-back Semedo starting.

All-action Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan misses the game with a thigh injury - he had been rated as having a 50-50 chance of playing. They make three changes in total from Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bologna.

Edin Dzeko is back in the team, Lorenzo Pellegrini returns from a calf injury and Bruno Peres starts.

Patrik Schick and Stephan el Shaarawy are benched.

    Ray WilkinsImage source, Getty Images

Former Manchester United manager Ron Atkinson on Ray Wilkins:

He was a very good player, the irony of it all is that if he played today, he would have been better. He had to play in an era where there were fierce midfielders who were allowed to be fierce. Ray liked to get on the ball. Today with players less like that and with the pitches today, I can't imagine him giving the ball away.

One game I remember, we played Dukla Prague in Europe, and we were getting played off the park. Ray wasn't having a good game but kept demanding the ball.

We got a penalty in the last moment and he went and grabbed the ball, even though he wasn't the designated penalty taker and rifled it home. That showed a lot of character to do that, while not at the top of his game but he had the mental strength in front of a big crowd at Old Trafford.

He loved playing the game, loved talking about the game, loved being involved. football was his life.

The opposite of a vote of confidence there from Wrighty. Loris Karius does indeed start in goal and he may be relieved that he's not facing Sergio Aguero or Raheem Sterling tonight.

Just Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus, David Silva and Kevin de Bruyne to worry about...

You would have thought the reason Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk is to help them win these types of games.

But I still feel the goalkeeping situation at Liverpool will be integral in these two games. Over 180 minutes there is no way Loris Karius will not make some kind of mistake. I can’t see it not happening.
