Lionel Messi is likely to return to the Barcelona starting line-up today.

Having missed Argentina's two friendlies with a hamstring injury, he was only on the bench for Saturday's La Liga game with Sevilla.

At 2-0 down - and their unbeaten league record on the line - they brought on Messi for the final half hour.

And in textbook Messi fashion he curled home an effort from outside the box in the 89th minute to make it 37 La Liga games unbeaten for Barca.

Coral: Ray Wilkins was my hero. I'm a Chelsea fan. He was an outstanding captain as a youngster & I then had a season ticket at Loftus Road when he went to QPR. I met him outside the Man Utd training ground, a real gent & had time for everyone.

The City coach has left its base and is on the move for now but it will have to fight its way through the welcoming committee when it gets to Anfield. There has just been an announcement for fans to clear Anfield Road but good luck with that one. I have just fought my way through and there is no room for them to go, not even up. Every vantage point is taken. The arrival of a police helicopter buzzing overhead is a sign that City will be here soon. How they get on is anyone’s guess.

The centrepiece of the strategies of Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola is an attack that has the potential to outscore any opposition.

Liverpool and Manchester City are the Premier League's top scorers with 75 and 88 respectively - so this Champions League quarter-final provides the perfect stage for the face-off.

Klopp's three-pronged spearhead of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have scored 75 goals in 119 games in all competitions - with Egyptian Salah scoring a remarkable 37 goals in 42 appearances.

City's attacking quartet of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus have scored 76 goals in 149 games between them - statistics that illustrate how heavily reliant Liverpool have been on their big three.

There is a trend among players who come from Europe who are sold this idea of the Premier League being this incredibly passionate place, that when they arrive, there’s a little bit of disappointment, especially among those from Germany. A few are disappointed with the atmosphere, especially at the big clubs.

That will not be the case at Anfield tonight. It will be the atmosphere that many people think English football has all the time. It will be very noisy, even if City score. The question for City is whether their players can stand up to that atmosphere. That’s not romanticizing Anfield or building it up, but a genuine question.

We caught up with MOTD host Gary Lineker before tonight's game at Anfield - he's working for someone else - and asked him all about playing with, and working with the late Ray Wilkins.

"You don't play 84 times for your country without being a great player," says Gary.

    Quite right too.

    Barcelona v Roma (19:45 BST)

    Jordi AlbaImage source, Getty Images

Defender Jordi Alba says the "feelings" in the Barcelona squad are better than in their treble-winning 2014-15 season.

Barca are unbeaten in La Liga this season and nine points clear at the top of the table.

They are also in the Copa del Rey final and face Roma in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Nou Camp as they aim to win all three major trophies again.

"In these moments I have even better feelings," Alba said.

"This year we could repeat those achievements because not only are we on a good path, but in the three competitions we are performing consistently and at a great level."

Alisson was amazing in the group stages, particularly against Atletico Madrid, I think he made about 200 saves at the Olimpico in 90 minutes.

And he will have to be every bit as good in trying to keep Roma in the game against Barcelona, like he did in the second half of the first leg against Shakhtar Dontesk.

It is crucial Roma get to the Olimpico and the tie is not already over, that’s the only chance I would give them.
