    Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal conjure up another flowing move into the box through Granit Xhaka, but Jamaal Lascelles is there to stick the ball behind for a corner, which comes to nothing.

At the other end, Dwight Gayle is sprinting towards the box and tries to control a lofted ball down but it's too tricky for him to control.

    Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a go from distance but he slips as he strikes the ball and it's an easy get for the Newcastle keeper.

It seems like they really have over-watered the pitch at SJP?

    Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

I was just about to say Arsenal are looking solid on the ball...but Rob Holding's gifted possession to Mo Diame on the half-way line.

Diame sends a lovely ball into the box and it almost reaches a loitering Dwight Gayle...but not quite.

Calum Chambers has done well there.

He has started the game very well, both defensively and now offering an offensive threat.

Alex Iwobi weaves and turns in the box, trying to get a shot away.

Eventually he takes a punt and Newcastle keeper Martin Dubravka has to get down low to save it.

Mat VP: That is my new favourite Arsenal goal of the season. Two passes from the defender and a top top finish. Very un-Arsenal like

    Newcastle 0-1 Arsenal

Newcastle earn a free-kick on the left. Jonjo Shelvey sends it in, it's collected by Petr Cech and he completely shanks his kick.

Luckily for him, it's picked up by his team-mates and Arsenal attack. They force a corner from it after Aubameyang's strike comes off Jamaal Lascelles.

Great goal after great movement from Aubameyang.

Lacazette is there at the back post and just showed his class.

    Alexandre Lacazette (14 mins)

A minute ago Alexandre Lacazette was on the floor in pain after being caught by Kenedy.

    Now he's bagged the opener!

Aubameyang finds loads of space and glides into the right area before laying off to Lacazette who slots in his 13th goal of the season

Matt Ritchie gets in a dangerous position on the right flank and whips the ball into the box.

Kenedy readies himself for a spectacular Ronaldo-style bicycle kick but he bottles it and Arsenal clear.

It's all gone a bit quiet over here.

Arsenal are patiently waiting to attack but they're being forced further and further back by Newcastle's defence.

Arsenal start to build up play in midfield before possession is nabbed by Newcastle.

Kenedy decides to have a go from distance and Petr Cech gets down low to make an easy-enough save.

    Michael O'Neill

It's been a great start to this game and now we've seen good play by Arsenal.

Alexandre Lacazette will be disappointed with that as it was well worked to him and a poor strike in the end.

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

Granit Xhaka loops the ball into the box but it's cleared well by Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles.

At the other end, Perez links up well with Dwight Gayle before Arsenal clear the danger.

    Both sides are looking lively.

  15. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

Are they playing on ice out there? We've had about five or six players stack it already.

Lacazette stays on his feet to dance around the edge of the box for Arsenal and his shot rolls past the post.

  16. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal

Mustafi knocks the ball out of play after a long-range Newcastle free-kick.

The hosts have a corner which is worked across the box by Shelvey but it's too fast and loose.

Exactly the start we expected from Newcastle, with Jonjo Shelvey putting it straight into the box.

Arsenal are going to have to expect plenty of direct balls into the box today. Good start from Newcastle.

We had a slight delay getting started because apparently Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had the wrong coloured tape on his socks.

    Modern football, eh?

Newcastle get a bright start as Jonjo Shelvey feeds to Matt Ritchie but Arsenal clear.
