    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

Will Hughes beats Dele Alli to the ball in midfield to win possession back for Watford.

The Englishman has started well - and Southgate will be taking note of that.

Watford have started reasonably well. They have shown some energy and look like they are going to get support to Andre Gray who I thought might be isolated. But Hughes, Richarlison and Femenia look like they want to get close to him.

    Tottenham 0-0 Watford

Son Heung-min is swamped by three Watford defenders as he tries to charge into the box. Spurs win the ball back immediately from Abdoulaye Doucoure though and Eric Dier is able to get a shot off in the box. It's always going wide but this is a nice spell from Spurs after a good start from Watford.

Christian Eriksen gains a yard on Etienne Capoue on the right and fires a ball across the box. It's cut out just in time but Spurs win a corner.

It's crossed into Harry Kane but his headed effort is blocked before Son Heung-min is flagged for offside.

Son Heung-min does well to retain possession for Spurs down the left amid several tackles from Watford's defence and he slips it right to Harry Kane.

The striker's effort is a poor one though and it dribbles towards keeper Orestis Karnezis.

It seems clear that Alderweireld was tapped up during his injury lay off, and with a release clause of just £25 million, there seems little point in playing him when his heart is not in the club. Spurs are absolutely doing the right thing - putting the team first and planning for the future.

Mousa Dembele is penalised for a tussle with Will Hughes in the middle. He seems a bit shocked by it but Watford spray it forward towards Jose Holebas before he's stopped in his tracks by Kieran Trippier.

  10. 'Tottenham players punished for ambition'published at 20:01 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

Whether it is Pochettino or the club, they have got this thing I don’t like about them where they cut their nose off to spite their face.

Whether it is to do with Danny Rose and the statements he came out with towards the end of last season, which Spurs fans would agree with.

Everybody wants big names and trophies, he is craving trophies. So is Toby Alderweireld and these players seem to be getting punished for it instead of rewarded for top performances.

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino speaking to Sky Sports: "It was easy to get over the loss to Manchester United. It is normal to be disappointed, but the players needed a few days to feel good, move on and are now focused on finishing in top four. Training has been good, the week has been good, we need to translate that today.

"To finish in the top four will be a very successful season. To get into the top four has been a massive challenge for us in the past."

  19. 'Spurs always fall into this trap'published at 19:50 British Summer Time 30 April 2018

    Tottenham v Watford (20:00 BST)

Former England midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

This is the kind of scenario that for Spurs historically has been the trap they fall into. ‘We’ve done it, we’re going to get top four’. Then all of a sudden it comes down to the last day of the season and the pressure is on.

I would like to think they are heading for that third spot, and not looking below them, looking above and thinking they can catch Liverpool, who have dropped a couple of points this weekend.
