Goonerama: If Egypt's plan is to play for a point against Uruguay and then unleash a fresh Salah against Saudi Arabia and Russia then for my money that is a very smart plan.

Mark: Assuming Egypt are resting Mo because everyone expected Uruguay to win this group so it made sense to save him for the two easier games. However...

Second change coming for Egypt - no, it's not you-know-who. Kahraba - whose nickname means Electricity - is on for Marwan Mohsen. I'm not doing a cheesy pun here. I'm just not.

  3. 'Surprised Sanchez didn't start'published at 14:21 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

Surprised Carlos Sanchez didn't start, he's a good player. He likes to link with up with the forwards too and will often end up there himself.

  4. DOUBLE SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 60 mins

    Egypt 0-0 Uruguay

Oscar Tabarez has to do something here, as a Uruguay move ends with Luis Suarez stumbling out of play. The coach's response is a double change: Carlos Sanchez and Cristian Rodriguez are on for Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Nahitan Nandez.

    Egypt 0-0 Uruguay

Uruguay have a long spell of possession, but don't cut through with it. Then Trezeguet knocks Matias Vecino off the ball with a robust challenge to set up an Egypt counter-attack. It comes to nothing, and we're back with Uruguay on the ball.

Sam Morsy, by the way, is one of only two players at the World Cup who played third-tier football during the season just gone. The other? Panama's Ismael Diaz, who featured for Deportivo B in the Spanish third division.

Calsx: We can say what we like about the quality of certain teams, but it's good to see league 1 and championship players get a chance on the world stage. Big moment for Morsy.

Merry: Egypt’s Sam Morsy, he’s one of our own!

  9. Cavani's forgettable first halfpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 15 June 2018

    Egypt 0-0 Uruguay

Uruguay need to step it up in attack in the second half - because it did not happen for them in the first. Edinson Cavani had the fewest touches (17) of any Uruguay player in the first half, with none of those coming in the opposition's box.

    Martin Keown

Fantastic moment for him, Great season with Wigan, we saw him play in the FA Cup, and now he'll play in a World Cup.

He will have to sit in with Elneny, but he will play, he can passs the ball and will want to run the show.

Tarek Hamed loks in trouble here. He got a bang in the rib cage as he jumped with Giorgian De Arrascaeta, and cannot continue. Disappointment for him, but a great opportunity for the man coming on - Wigan's Wolverhampton-born midfielder Sam Morsy. He made only one appearance in qualifying, and here he is, playing at a World Cup.

    Martin Keown

Great move, Cavani played ball into the channel, Suarez, it was his brother playing in the first half, much sharper. Keeper does well from there. Suarez does everything but score.

Better from Uruguay. Much better. Edinson Cavani plays Luis Suarez in behind Ahmed Hegazi, it's set up from him to shoot - but goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy blocks with the foot. Good effort, fine stop.

Egypt midfielder Tarek Hamed the last player back on the pitch for the second half after that injury at the end of the first, but he's certainly able to carry on for now. Mohamed Salah remains on the bench.

James: When I was seven, our family was on a trip down to York via train, a man on the same train handed me the Euro 2004 Panini sticker album that he got free with the paper. The rest is history and I’ve been collecting ever since.

Guy: Collected every sticker in the Euro 2016 except for Eder, who coincidentally scored the winner in the final. Weird that.

He was able to find space because France didn't know what he looked like, I reckon...

Phil Neville's going for Rodrigo Bentancur as the star player to this point. Collectively, you're going for Diego Godin, who is averaging 6.95. Luis Suarez is on 3.39. That's gotta hurt.

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC One

For me, Rodrigo Bentancur has been the best player on the pitch. He only given the ball away once in the first half.

For a player of that age [he's not 21 until 25 June], playing in the World Cup with that composure is great.

Two key moments from that first half. Well. three if you count Martin Keown suggesting that Luis Suarez looks as if he's towing a caravan. Let's look at the video of those two incidents Abdallah El Said's dive and Luis Suarez's miss...
