Oh, what a miss. Luis Suarez has a clear chance six yards out as Egypt fail to clear a corner, and hooks his shot into the side-netting. Initially, it looks as if the ball has gone in... but it's an optical illusion.

Rodrigo Bentancur is taking too long on the ball. Pass it forward, it is simple, give the ball to the players in front of you that are better than you.

Just a little test, getting his shooting range in, never going to trouble the goalkeeper from there. Cavani's movement is outstanding, he just ghosts into the box. Very difficult to play against.

Diegwu: As an African, I can't describe how happy I am hearing the Egypt anthem. "finally" Africa's best team is at the World Cup. Wish them all the best.

    Egypt 0-0 Uruguay

First contribution from Amr Warda, the forward given the responsibility of making up for Mohamed Salah's absence. He latches on to a lose crossfied pass from Luis Suarez, and forces Martin Cacares into touch, although it's a Uruguay ball. It's going to be some effort for Egypt to cope without Salah here, but they've made a solid start.

Early injury for Edinson Cavani, who gets arap on the ankles from Egypt midfielder Tarek Hamed. "Many people's favourites to get the first red card of the tournament," says Jonathan Pearce of Hamed. Cavani is quickly up and OK.

Adam: Everyone talking about Ronaldo, Neymar & Messi etc. taking over the World Cup. But Suarez & Cavani are going to be a handful for Uruguay.

Stewart: Uruguay are my pick to win the World Cup as on paper, they have an extremely strong side. I appreciate matches are won on grass, but I'm not letting something as trivial as that get in the way of hyping them up.

Indeed it is, Duncan. The full version lasts around six minutes, but we've got the seven-inch mix today. 'Orientales, la Patria o la Tumba', it's called. "Well that was a litle bit special," says Jonathan Pearce on BBC One.

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC One

    Godin is fantastic.

When we faced him in Spain I watched him warm up and he didn't look like an athlete. He couldn't run, couldn't jump. On the pitch he was an animal.

A simple no nonsense defender, so aggressive. He sees the ball and he will go and win it, reads the game so well. He's so so key for Uruguay.

Phil Neville has just suggested that Uruguay could go a long way in this tournament, not just because of the threat of Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani, but also the defensive solidity of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez. Let's hear from him on that...
