    FT: Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Rio Ferdinand
Former England defender on BBC One

Uruguay will be reliant on being hard to play against, being compact and being hard to beat - knowing that they have two world-class strikers at the other end, who they will back to take their chances.

Uruguay aren't bothered about the performance, not the players or the coach, they're just result driven.

  4. 'Two of the poorest teams we've seen'published at 18:06 British Summer Time 20 June 2018

    FT: Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Cesc Fabregas
Chelsea and Spain midfielder on BBC One

Saudi Arabia play very well from the back, they have a few decent players, but they didn't want to get the ball in the box for some reason.

Saudi Arabia and Egypt are two of the poorest teams we've seen at the tournament.

Sam Cross: Saudi Arabia vs Egypt next Monday anyone? Surely the deadest of dead rubbers.

Lee Fergusson: Saudi Arabia and Egypt are the first two teams out. No great those two - both pretty poor.

  7. 'Uruguay are my dark horses'published at 18:00 British Summer Time 20 June 2018

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Stephen Warnock
Ex-Liverpool defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Uruguay are very resilient in the way they play. With Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez they can score goals.

They are my dark horses for the competition. They have put in a real strong performance, but it was a disappointing performance from Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia had a lack of drive and an acceptance they were going home.

It was a nice finish from Suarez on his 100th cap for Uruguay and they also look strong in defence.

    FT: Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Didier Drogba
Phoenix Rising and former Ivory Coast striker on BBC One

That's not the best game we've seen at this World Cup. I think Uruguay were happy to win 1-0 today, but I think they will improve.

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia have a free-kick down the right, time to lump it into the mixer.

Instead, they play a cross-field ball towards the left back.

They deserve to go home for that alone.

  12. 'Uruguay's success will be built on their two centre-halves'published at 17:51 British Summer Time 20 June 2018

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    Phil Neville
Former England & Man Utd defender on BBC One

Uruguay's success will be built on their two centre-halves. They're one of the best defensive partnerships in world football in Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez. They compliment each other really well.

  14. CLOSE!published at 90+2 mins

    Uruguay 1-0 Saudi Arabia

    This could have flown in!

Yasser Al Shahrani works some room then strikes a right-footed shot which is heading wide, but takes a deflection off Diego Godin.

Thankfully for Fernando Muslera, the pace is taken off the ball and he can re-adjust to collect.

You feel like Saudi Arabia have played just for pride today, just to not get hammered again, because they came under some heavy criticism after that 5-0 defeat to Russia. They're almost happy to lose 1-0.
